They basically sold the government to themselves while they still controlled it and are currently upset they’re being called out for doing that. Desantis has to do something because he looks like a moron right now.

I’m fairly confident that he can fuck them over in a big, well-deserved way.

The 2023 Shareholder meeting was a trip. Disney made the decision to make this one a live webcast, and maybe they shouldn’t have. Iger got blindsided by a few investors who slipped past the filter call. 54:19 of the video is especially interesting. Someone must have screwed up big in the pre-call for that guy to have gotten through.

Iger is trying to sound like he is important to Florida by saying he is investing 17 billion over 10 years, but that is piddly. With inflation what it is and Disney’s out of control costs, that probably would amount to at most 4 new rides and most of the money would flow back to California.
I’m getting that feeling Iger is warming up his plan to run for president. That’s the only reason to keep picking fights with Florida. Anyone else notice that?
Oh, Iger also said they’re done with EPCOT. So what’s that money supposed to be going?

Disney lost the fight with Florida in that investor call. When Bob Iger revealed that Reedy Creek’s governance and Disney’s business are one, he entered the endgame. WDW Pro explains the legal stuff pretty well.
Also, Iger directly compared the education bill fight to the 60s civil rights movement and beating Germany in WW2. He really wasn’t prepared for adversarial questioning and put his foot in his mouth over and over. He probably did more damage to Disney today than Chapek did across his tenure as CEO.

I mean the park renovation. The one they didn’t actually do even though they spent several years and billions of dollars not doing it.

This stream breaks down in detail what happened in the Disney Shareholder meeting yesterday. As expected, Iger’s effective admission that Reedy Creek has been a fraud this whole time has already led to an investigation by Florida. Not all outlets are currently aware of how disastrous Iger’s statements were. Reuters’ fluff piece is just a waffling ramble with no substance. Nobody is as shameful as Kotaku, though. The author writes like an embarrassing child as he dismisses the investigation, and has set his readers up for a rude awakening.

I doubt what he said will matter. It was already known, admitted, and legally fact that Disney controlled Reedy Creek. I don’t know why these commentators think saying so is somehow a gotcha. Everyone knew and no one debated it.

It’s also unlikely the agreements will be voided. The ball is in the state’s court. The fact they’re doing investigations, as opposed to something meaningful, tells me they are buying time or trying to shove it under the rug.
I think Disney won this one, but they won by escalating the situation. Desantis could respond on a similar level, but it will require making more bold political moves. Disney is playing chicken.
My prediction: Disney expects some kind of response from the state, which will then prompt them to “reconsider” the supposed 17 billion they committed to Florida. The media, which is substantially under the control of Disney and preferential to Disney even when it isn’t, will make it out as a huge loss for Florida and Desantis, even though the 17 billion was never actually going to Florida to begin with.

This Time Magazine puff piece on Bob Iger reads like fellatio. This author has to be some kind of Disney insider. I can’t imagine someone who doesn’t have their eggs in Disney’s basket being this worshipful.

Desantis is talking about new taxes and toll roads at Disney, as well as completely dissolving the district to void the agreements. Like I said, Disney overplayed their hand unless this is all part of some contrived scheme (Iger for Prez or Gov).

Three new Star Wars movies were just announced. A movie to close out the Mandalorian, a sequel to episode 9 in which Rey restarts the Jedi order, and some film about the first Jedi. So I guess Disney will now have its fingerprints all over the origins of the Force. I bet they Timeless Children it.
Jessica Gao, the one behind She-Hulk, was just brought on to co-write Deadpool 3.

“There are some lyric changes in ‘Kiss the Girl,’” Menken said, “because people have gotten very sensitive about the idea that [Prince Eric] would, in any way, force himself on [Ariel]. We have some revisions in ‘Poor Unfortunate Souls’ regarding lines that might make young girls somehow feel that they shouldn’t speak out of turn, even though Ursula is clearly manipulating Ariel to give up her voice.”

The Mario movie has set the new record for an animated film’s debut. I find it intriguing that a lot of outlets are skirting around the fact that the previous record was set by Frozen 2. They’re all interested in comparing Mario to everything else it beat, including MCU and DCEU projects, but only a few of them will say Frozen 2.

Disney leftists are wild. They’re all constitutional scholars, Florida voters, and civil engineers who think you can move 4 theme parks and 20 hotels on a whim. Do the mental exercise of replacing “Disney” with literally any other company.
