They’re from California. Disney can’t embed itself any deeper than they already are. And Montana is less blue than Texas is, they’d have an easier time finding a suitably-located friendly county there than here.

Nowhere North is under consideration for Disney, anyway. They need year-round hot weather so they can be open all the time. That means low in the South and near the water. They really don’t have a lot of options when it comes to opening parks, and that’s why it was so stupid last year when these same people were suggesting moving Disney World to Portland. Oregon may have the politics, but they don’t have the weather. If things ever got so bad that Disney had to move, they have five or maybe six realistic options, if Alabama can be counted as an option.

All of this is ignoring that Disney is in billions of dollars in debt that they’re servicing with theme park, mostly Disney World, profits. They can’t build another theme park complex.

It’s a rumor right now, but Jonathan Majors may be fired. What that means for the MCU, if it’s true, I can’t say. Kang is meant to be the driving force of the whole phase.

Wouldn’t be the first time Marvel has replaced a key character for someone completely different. Just replace Majors with a white dude and call him the villain.

Pixar’s next movie, Elemental, has seemingly no hype. It appears to be getting buried by Dreamworks’ upcoming movie, Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken. Pixar is wagering its existence as a studio on this box office battle. If they lose money again, they get rolled into Disney Animation.

Dreamworks has been getting all kinds of attention for making the antagonist of Teenage Kraken look like an evil Ariel. The design has been getting compared positively to the Little Mermaid remake, which will also be releasing in the same window.

So anyway. Disney’s two cities are going to be redone. I’m not the only one pointing out that this now has to do with Iger wanting to run for president and is using Disney as a springboard. The way he is behaving is clearly contrary to the interests of shareholders. That has got to be illegal.

More Bob Iger puff from Time Magazine. I’ve found the connection. The owner of Time Magazine is also the owner of Salesforce, which has been in bed with Disney since 2021. This propagandizing is Benioff protecting his cash cow, so if Bob Iger makes Man of the Year, that’s why.

If Ant-Man Quantumania cracks $500m at the global box office, it’ll lose anywhere from 50 to $75m, depending on the exact places the money came from. It isn’t guaranteed to make even that much, and finishing somewhere in the 480 region is quite possible.

The Marvels teaser is the MCU’s most disliked trailer, ratio-wise. Probably not too much hope for them there.

The new Peter Pan movie is probably going to bomb. No one seems interested at all. Even Elemental has more buzz, and that’s a hype graveyard.

I just went over the official information on the Disney board of directors. Just according to that self-published information, Disney is controlled by these companies:

NIKE, Coca Cola, Oracle, eBay, McKinsey, Intel, AMD, Motorola, Villanova University, Humane Society, Chase/JPMorgan, Americas Society, National Geographic, lululemon, Sephora/LVMH, CVS.

Coca Cola had an especially large influence, controlling 3 board of directors members.

They also have connections via previous roles to the following:

Google, Faceberg, General Motors, Illumina, Microsoft, MTV, the US Department of Treasury, the White House, Citigroup, Avon, Sears Canada, Loblaw Companies Limited, Cole Haan, Eli Lilly.

They did NOT mention how deep they are in bed with Blackrock and Vanguard.

Is it any wonder why Disney is so fucked up?

There’s a hidden connection to Apple, as well. Bob Iger was Steve Jobs’ friend, and was on Apple’s board for years while he was CEO, and even helped with the rollout of Apple+. He only resigned from Apple’s board when he was launching Disney+, and he started getting too much attention for his conflicts of interest. Leaks have indicated that Iger came back with the aim of prepping Disney to be sold to Apple. Even his denial last year hasn’t dimmed the perception that selling to Apple is his ultimate goal.

I used Montana as an example of a place where large quantities of contiguous vacant properties can be acquired relatively cheaply. I didn’t actually mean to suggest it as a viable option.

Also, I thought the whole point of Disney World was that it would serve the east coast while Disney Land served the west coast. Moving their park anywhere east of Texas would result in it competing against their other park. The best options would be somewhat friendly states within the same region, like Georgia, North Carolina, or maybe Virginia or East Texas.

And who the hell is seriously suggesting moving it to Portland? Aside from having bad weather for half the year, I don’t think you could acquire enough suitable vacant land to rebuild Disney World anywhere west of Bend.

Now that I think about it, trying to rebuild Disney World in a blue state would be a nightmare due to all the building and land use regulations they pile onto any construction project. Even if Reedy Creek were completely abolished, staying in Florida would probably be the better option in a business sense, unless they’re just that devoted to spiting a governor who’s gonna hit his term limit in four years.

The people who suggested Portland all live on Twitter. They’re the ones who think Disney has unlimited money, Disney World can just pull up stakes like it’s a carnival, and that Florida depends on Disney for survival. I’ve also seen people suggest New Jersey, but that one didn’t get as much traction.

Atlantic City would make more sense than Portland. New Jersey’s gambling laws are a lot less strict than Oregon’s, and since Disney doesn’t care about being ‘family-friendly’ anymore they might as well build a casino or two.

The official numbers have finally been released. Lightyear ended up losing about $106m. This isn’t exactly new news, the estimates last year were that lost around $100m, but it’s nice to see concrete numbers made public. Lightyear was one of the biggest box office losers of 2022, alongside Strange World.

Brie Larson’s boosters are at it again. An article just dropped reacting to the poor performance of The Marvels’ trailer. The content boils down to “I’m not crying, you’re crying.”

People are losing their minds because one of the actors in the live action Lilo & Stitch remake is too light for their tastes. The next big project is live action Moana, so we can probably count on this controversy happening twice in a row.

Disney World’s home page has mostly, if not entirely, white people on its video roll.

Is it sad that I suspect me pointing this out will somehow get it changed? It should be, but dumber shit has happened.

Guardians of the Galaxy 3 is facing some surprising uncertainty leading up to it release. Usually the estimates are more tightly grouped than this, even if they’re wrong. The shakiness of Guardians’ numbers is definitely odd, and some of them dip into box office bomb territory.

DeSantis said he’ll nullify the agreement with Reedy Creek, presumably to redo the transfer of power. The actual session will be held on Wednesday, so we’ll see what the specifics of the plan are then. In the meantime, Florida is going to be ending Disney’s exemption from state oversight. Once the legislation passes, an army of inspectors will enter Disney World. The notorious monorail provides a lot of the cited justification for this change. Considering the sorry state of Disney maintenance, they’ll likely fail on most fronts.

They should require state inspections for all parks. It would be more legally sound and I can’t see a downside to additional inspections.

They already do. Disney World was the only one that was exempt because it was under the umbrella of the Reedy Creek Improvement District’s autonomy. Everyone else has always been working under Florida’s oversight.
