Disney-Marvel’s treatment of VFX artists has become so bad that they’re considering unionization. Marvel regularly hires only 1/3 of the necessary personnel per project, and makes them work in a state of permanent crunch. And they only pay them 80% of industry standard on top of that. Disney punishes the inevitable burnout with blacklisting.
 
All those journos and twitterites who make a point to be visibly concerned about crunch in the game industry are conspicuously not calling for boycotts of Disney.

A sheriff’s report just dropped today. Seems that if you pay Disney enough, you can physically bully cast members without repercussion.

As the China/US friction increases, I feel like Disney is not properly accounting for the probability they are going to end up in the political hot-seat for their double dealing.

The Phantom Menace broke new ground by introducing the first homosexual in Star Wars.  

It sounds like the next MCU show is aimed at kids and is about trans representation. If that’s not the case, they need to reign in the actor’s statements.

Florida is holding a special legislative session on Monday dealing with Reedy Creek, alongside other issues. It appears that DeSantis plans to have Disney take care of the nearly $1b in debt itself.

The new Reedy Creek proposal has been introduced in the special session. I’m not entirely happy with it, but it’s up for debate on Wednesday, so maybe some changes are still possible. Under the new proposal, Reedy Creek won’t be dissolved, it’ll just be taken away from Disney and have most of its powers disappear. The new board would be appointed by DeSantis, and then strict rules would be in place preventing Disney family members, landowners, or other likely Disney partisans from retaking over the governance of the district.
 
I would rather see Reedy Creek dissolved entirely. Not doing so means that Disney’s apparatus of state still exists and, safeguards or not, it isn’t impossible for Disney to eventually infiltrate its way back into ruling the district.

Well, if Reedy Creek were dissolved then someone else would have to take on the debt. There are also some services such as fire protection, drainage canals, and road maintenance that would have to be transferred to another body if the district were abolished.
 
I agree that Disney might find a way to infiltrate the board at some point, but if the initial board is hand-picked by DeSantis, it should be safe for a while. It will also have a lot fewer powers than it did before, so Disney would have less to gain from co-opting it.

It’s the debt that’s the problem. DeSantis appears to be gearing up for a run in 2024, and every possible opponent from both parties can be counted on to use “DeSantis cost taxpayers a billion dollars” as a canned attack line.

Do you think the debt is the only reason why it isn’t being abolished? Rather than, say, all of the infrastructure it currently operates?
