Disney’s move to get the Florida suit dismissed failed. The federal suit is on hold, because the state suit is superseding, since the whole situation has to do with state matters. It was always crucial for Disney to get the state suit dismissed, since if they lose this one, the federal suit is basically dead in the water.

Naturally, the outlets reporting on this are projecting confidence that Disney has it in the bag, and take pains to editorialize about DeSantis, Florida, and the like. This isn’t just partisanship at work, they’re even less unbiased about this case than they would be normally. Journos all over are quickly adopting the mentality that they are party to Disney’s side of this case. That CNBC article up there is written by someone who thinks, or at least enjoys pretending, that he’s right there in the courtroom at Iger’s side.

The Acolyte has been suffering from budget bloat since day one. Disney should take advantage of the Hollywood strikes and kill it. It’s already promising to be one of their most expensive projects, it’s set in the financial dead-end that is the High Republic, and the marketing hasn’t been promising.

A couple of years ago I heard a theory that Marvel Comics isn’t supposed to be profitable– that Disney’s just using them as an R&D house to generate source material for future Marvel TV & Film content, and that the only thing the comics have to do is just win awards. And in the past few years we’ve seen characters like Ms. Marvel move from comics to TV and now to film, so that theory seems to be holding water.

Disney should just shut down Marvel Comics. The publicity stunt they pulled with killing off Ms. Marvel just a few months ago caused their fake fans to throw a shit fit because they thought a comic character would stay dead. She’s already back, and now those same people are angry about that. It must be frustrating for Disney, to be constantly reee’d at for their attempts to put this character over. They should know by now that the only people who care about their books anymore are the people who never read comics in the first place and still don’t, even now that Disney is trying to sell to them exclusively.

Bob Iger got a contract extension. Previously, he was going to be out in 2024. Now, he’ll be CEO through at least 2026. He appears to be preparing a list of Disney assets to sell off.

Ah yes. Let us step all over one of the company’s founder’s greatest achievements. Also gotta love how little all they resemble even the dwarves faces. This look like the most random assortment of people possible.

Production photos are starting to come out for the Snow White live-action movie. It looks bad. We knew that the seven dwarves wouldn’t be dwarves ever since Peter Dinklage wrote that cry piece about little people. Disney changed things so that they would be ‘magical creatures’, which I thought was going to mean some kind of CGI thing. Turns out, what they meant by that was six San Franciscans and a dwarf.

The media’s current estimate for Indiana Jones is that it will lose around $250 million. That estimate is wrong, since it puts the break even point at only $750 million globally. The movie’s budget overruns are well known, and aren’t reflected in the $295 million stated budget. The break even point is well north of $800 million dollars, with some variance depending on where the money is coming from, since some countries pay less back to the studio than others.

Disney’s original shitty version of the Donald Trump animatronic at Disney’s Hall of Presidents is back in the public eye. Apparently, the rumor that the first animatronic was a Hillary Clinton animatronic with a wig and a suit has some merit.

That’s gotta be a catastrophic low for Disney.

But still not low enough! Do harder!

Indiana Jones made $7.2 million in Thursday previews. The Little Mermaid made $10 million and The Flash made $9 million in their Thursday previews, and both of those were considered to be terrible preview numbers.

This is an interesting breakdown. The estimates, as admitted, are likely slanted in Disney’s favor, but they’re still dire.

Disney is under fire for using AI to generate Secret Invasion’s intro.

Another Disney exec is gone. The CFO, Christine McCarthy, announced a few days ago that she’ll be stepping down. Today, Disney fired their Chief Diversity Officer. McCarthy’s departure is pretty normal, and with her known history of health issues, the medical leave story might be true. With the DEI officer, she’s out the door today and there was no notice given to her or her staff beforehand. It’s as close to being walked out the door with a box as is possible in Disney’s upper levels.

Elemental opened to about $44.5 million global this weekend, with $29.5 million of that coming from the domestic market. Its run is already effectively over. The only question left is whether it loses more than Lightyear. Or even Strange World.

Disney isn’t alone in failure this week. The Flash opened to $55 million domestic, down from the already halved $70 million estimates leading into the weekend. With a $200 million budget, The Flash is going to need incredible legs to even stand a chance of breaking even. This bodes poorly for the remaining DCEU projects, which are even more pointless than this one, since they can’t even connect to Gunn’s rebooted DCU.

Indiana Jones 5’s projections are already down to the $55-$60 million range, and they have only ever dropped as the release date approaches. Come July, we may be seeing a financial disaster unfolding that makes the rest of Disney’s year-to-date look good.

Disney seems to be delaying almost all of their big projects. It appears they’re leaning heavily on Avatar as a tent pole franchise going forward. The new Alien project from Ridley Scott caught my eye, but I’m not interested until some information comes out. There’s no guarantee it’s not another Prometheus.
