Disney Sucks

That isn’t how it works. It’s based on size and the exemption applies to Disney, Universal, and Sea World as it is. The change would only target Disney, making it more likely it would be thrown out of court if it is done on a state level. The new Reedy Creek may be able to do it specifically to Disney.

The next casting choice for Lilo & Stitch has also been met with howls of protest. This time, Disney’s chosen fans have started lobbing death threats on Twitter. I wonder how Disney feels about the Moana remake now.

Anyone who still cares about Disney remakes at this point is too attached to the brand to leave it. They’ll see it when it comes out, no matter who they cast.

I haven’t seen a single one. I don’t understand they can’t just show the classic animated versions at theaters again. It’s not like anyone is going to complain, and who isn’t going to enjoy re-watching their childhood films with their kids at the theater, rather than these un-holy bastardizations?

Because the people making the remakes want their movies to be the ones that everybody knows and loves.
Also, to get rid of things like ‘What Makes the Red Man Red?’ and the ‘Jim Crow’ Crows.

Disney has shown themselves to be very, very, unapologetically racist, even to this day. If it weren’t for ESG scores they wouldn’t give a damn about removing politically incorrect stuff from their productions.

Indiana Jones 5 is gearing up to be a massive financial disaster. The officially stated budget is already $295 million. We don’t know if the latest reshoots are included in that figure. Due to inflation and forex drag, that 295 is closer to $320 million, since they funded the film on British credit for tax purposes.
Jonathan Majors is probably done. Multiple other women have come out with accusations, his PR firm and manager have dropped him, and everyone but Disney has fired him.

DeSantis’ board passed the resolution granting themselves superior authority over Disney in Reedy Creek. It was uncovered that Disney’s lawyers were in control of drafting the language in Disney’s last minute power grab. That violates the separation of Disney and RCID, and constitutes Disney negotiating with itself, which is the leverage Florida is using to void the agreement. Disney also failed to mail information on the changes it was making to local households, which also gives Florida an in to void the deal. The changes Disney made to the agreement would require an announcement in two public forums and in the mail of the affected surroundings.

The local households thing sounds suspicious. Disney has made a huge effort to make sure anyone in their domain is under their control, so it’s possible they did forget, but it strikes me that it’s likely the standing for a complaint would be with the people Disney controls, not the state. It might work, but it’s not straight-forward. It would probably have to be on some kind of voters’ rights ground and doesn’t seem likely to void the agreement, just end up being a fine or some other penalty. Basically, it seems nearly impossible to me that you can argue as a third party that people were misinformed when they will definitely claim they were informed.
I don’t know the laws with self-dealing, but Disney always controlled Reedy Creek and it was never hidden. I don’t know why so many commentators are taking the line that self-dealing would be a win because any court is going to throw that out. Trying to make a single, recent agreement a problem after half a century of being fine with similar isn’t going to fly.
It seems the most likely route to actually succeed would be to argue the actual agreement made is illegal, not just the mechanism by which it was made. Or, if it wasn’t, to make it illegal. I suspect we aren’t seeing that because it would affect many of Desantis’ supporters in Florida running various types of retirement towns.
My stance on the matter would be towards not allowing private entities governmental powers, ever.
Also unrelated directly to the matter, I want to draw attention to a photo in that article. If you spent any time in Florida talking to the locals, that sign seems very poorly thought through.

The second round of layoffs at Disney is going to start Monday. The entertainment and tv divisions are expected to make up the bulk of the cuts. It seems that Disney’s response to the rise of credible competition in the animation space is to give up.

What about it seems “poorly thought through?” It just seems like more self-promotion that you would expect from a politician, possibly indicative of a future presidential run.

There is a saying in Florida, “Don’t New York my Florida.” Desantis’ sign says, “The Florida Blueprint New York.”
I wasn’t making a serious statement there. Just thought it was a pretty comical thing to accidentally imply on his part.

Peter Pan & Wendy is going to be a streaming exclusive. If it doesn’t drive subscriptions, then its revenue will be effectively $0. This is actually a sensible idea, since they stood to lose more money by releasing it. This way, they’re only out the movie’s budget, rather than stacking an advertising campaign and distribution on top of that.

Peter Pan & Wendy is pulling in poor audience scores. It’s currently sitting at 2.8 on Metacritic and 24% on RT. Not releasing this one in theaters was the correct choice. They knew they had another flop on their hands.
Disney is in the midst of its second round of layoffs, which is expected to total 7,000 cut positions. At the same time, they just paid Victoria Alonso a settlement worth millions.
