Welcome to the internet
Have a look around
Anything that brain of yours can think of can be found
We’ve got mountains of content
Some better, some worse
If none of it’s of interest to you, you’d be the first
Welcome to the internet
Come and take a seat
Would you like to see the news or any famous women’s feet?
There’s no need to panic
This isn’t a test, haha
Just nod or shake your head and we’ll do the rest
Welcome to the internet
What would you prefer?
Would you like to fight for civil rights or tweet a racial slur?
Be happy
Be horny
Be bursting with rage
We got a million different ways to engage
Welcome to the internet
Put your cares aside
Here’s a tip for straining pasta
Here’s a nine-year-old who died
We got movies, and doctors, and fantasy sports
And a bunch of colored pencil drawings
Of all the different characters in Harry Potter fucking each other
Welcome to the internet
Hold on to your socks
‘Cause a random guy just kindly sent you photos of his cock
They are grainy and off-putting
He just sent you more
Don’t act surprised, you know you like it, you whore
See a man beheaded
Get offended, see a shrink
Show us pictures of your children
Tell us every thought you think
Start a rumor, buy a broom
Or send a death threat to a boomer
Or DM a girl and groom her
Do a Zoom or find a tumor in your
Here’s a healthy breakfast option
You should kill your mom
Here’s why women never fuck you
Here’s how you can build a bomb
Which Power Ranger are you?
Take this quirky quiz
Obama sent the immigrants to vaccinate your kids
Could I interest you in everything?
All of the time?
A little bit of everything
All of the time
Apathy’s a tragedy
And boredom is a crime
Anything and everything
All of the time
Could I interest you in everything?
All of the time?
A little bit of everything
All of the time
Apathy’s a tragedy
And boredom is a crime
Anything and everything

We’re in an epidemic of games that felt half-assed. They may have good concepts and even implementations, but feel like no one play-tested them and fixed obvious issues.

Well…it finally happened.

My brother tested positive for covid a few days ago and he has not been staying in his room at all. Suppose I shouldn’t be too surprised that I’ve now tested positive too…

I just want everyone to know that should the worst happen to me, I wish all of you a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year…and to my friends, I pray that you find the strength to go on without me. Wherever I end up, I’m sure it can’t be any worse then the awful state I linger in now…

That being said, I would appreciate some advice and prayers for my swift recovery and overcoming of this hurdle, thank you~ <3

@JamaicanCrackhead
There are two factors: more of what Russian media says passes the sniff test and more of it ends up becoming accepted fact.

Take the thermobaric weapons point. It was plastered all over Western media for at least a month. Russian media essentially said, no that’s stupid. It never happened. Now it’s not even a talking point, no one cares. Now it’s moved on, after ignoring that kind of talking point for a few months, to being nuclear weapons. Nuclear weapons, I think, fails the sniff test. It can be rejected on face value as a nonsensical, emotional argument.

How about another one that has been memory holed: Bucha. After occupying the place for long enough to identify any hostile elements, if that was the Russian goal, supposedly they didn’t care to kill them until they were going out the door. Does that make sense? It doesn’t to me. It’s the kind of propaganda that only makes sense to someone who doesn’t consider the actual nature of a military occupation. If you’re going to kill the guys that don’t like you and you know who they are, there’s zero point in waiting and absolutely no point in doing it right before leaving, without any plan to cover it up. I think the Russian claim it was retaliation against collaborators that was then blamed on Russia makes much more sense, just from a logical perspective. That’s without taking into account any evidence, which could be faked by either side. My best assessment of that evidence, though, leans towards the Ukrainians being responsible, or a mix of both stories being true and they both committed massacres and tried to pin them on each other.

The topic that started this line of discussion was Russian equipment. For months NATO media was beating the dead horse that Russia had no equipment, it was begging China for equipment, and so on. Well, they’ve got missiles, don’t they? There’s a hit on credibility. The rest of the claims, again, don’t pass the sniff test. I would grant that much Russian equipment has probably been destroyed, but Putin begging China for tanks is the kind of thing you would put on a WWI propaganda poster, not a serious claim that a serious, trustworthy media outlet would make - at least, without evidence.

Most importantly, this isn’t isolated to the Ukraine war. I greatly distrust NATO/Western media because I see how openly and often they lie about everything else. Maybe that’s a life experience TeamBlueplant hasn’t quite had not living in America, but I know any time I see something on TV, I immediately suspect the opposite is true and usually end up right. I have no reason to believe that they would stop lying at a time and about an event they’re trying as hard as they can to stack the deck on.

Especially not when I can easily catch them in an emotionally driven lie - like “Crimea Bridge Destroyed!” - a lie that is then subsequently ignored once the evidence starts to come out in a way that starts even the clueless normies saying “wait, you said” about. Especially not when the Western media is so invested in “fact checking” and outright censoring any disagreement in Western discourse. Those are not the actions of someone unafraid of their lies being called out. Censoring dissent immediately invites my suspicions. Hell, being able to censor dissent invites my suspicion.

These are the same liars infamous for “mostly peaceful protests” - expecting me to take their word on a war they’re literally invested ($$$) in isn’t reasonable, especially when they bring little to the table other than emotional appeals.

Russia, on the other hand, I think has a lot more reason to not get caught in a lie. It’s much harder to access Russian media, partially because of Western censorship. It’s illegal to view it in parts of Europe. They have no control over Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, or any other Western means of discourse. Even Telegram is censoring them. Literally the entire western media apparatus is trying to prove them wrong. But typically, for a given event, I find the Russian account has stronger supporting evidence, more logical conclusions and arguments, and less baseless appeals to emotion. I think they have to do better, because if they don’t, they have nothing. That doesn’t mean they don’t lie, but it definitely means if I am between the two, I’ll lean towards the Russian version.

If I had to be more general, I find appeals to emotional are a good litmus test for liars. The more they’re trying to manipulate your emotions instead of presenting logical reasoning, the more likely they know the facts aren’t in their favor.

@Officer Hotpants
Well that’s the thing isn’t it? They didn’t make it exactly the same as what it was they made it so much worse. The Precursors where just put in there to be the Forerunners of the Forerunners and in so doing devaluing and undermining their original narrative role in Bungie Halo. In the process they turned them into a civilization of self-aggrandising morons who have such a singular vision on “Muh Mantle!” that it overrides all common sense.

They only care about “Muh Mantle” because the Precursors chose them for it, but when they decided to choose Humanity instead, the Forerunners killed them all for it and fought a war with us because “We where chosen for Muh Mantle!”. The authority they are invoking for that justification is the same authority that decided Humans where a better pick, so already they’ve demonstrated themselves to be self-centered and egotistical beyond all reasonable measure.

The only reason they bothered to save the other species from the Flood is because “Muh Mantle” demanded it, they where obligated to this stupid code that they didn’t even earn anyway. Compare that to old canon where the Forerunners where simply the most advanced race in the galaxy and they chose to save the other races because they believed they had a right to exist, certainly they shouldn’t die to the Flood. They simply had morals and principles they believed in so strongly they ultimately choose to sacrifice themselves rather then take the coward’s way out and compromise on them.

Or you know what? The Banished could have actually been a good faction that actually utilized all the potentially interesting ideas that they where given, instead of being used for nothing and ultimately thrown away. I’ve talked about some of this stuff before so forgive me if I’m repeating myself a bit but what if: Instead of Atriox being this big dummy writer’s pet with dreadnaught-class starship tier plot armour, he was instead an understrength but highly intelligent subversive leader, whose vision allowed him to maintain the only heretical movement to actually outlast the Covenant itself?

He could make allies with all manner of unorthodox forces, giving the Banished a truly unique armour composition, he may have even brought Insurrectionist survivors into his fold, since it’s mentioned in 343’s own dubious lore that they had no ideological opposition to it. Imagine if one of Atriox’s top lieutenants and best friend was an old Innie Commander, maybe leading a chapter of the Banished called the Scars of Madrigal or something, using the standard Covenant lance formation but with humans in Banished powered armour in place of Sanghelli or Jiralhanne commanders.

Here’s an idea: if such a character existed and was one of Atriox’s closest friends, maybe they could bond over their mutual distaste for the authorities leading their races on what they see as a tyrannical and destructive path? Maybe this could give them an actual reason to declare war on the UNSC as comrades in arms, since I really don’t understand what why they do it in 343’s canon. I don’t even think they ever bother explaining it, they just wanted a replacement Covenant, and theirs is so much cooler then that lame Bungie stuff, you guys!

So much potential with the Banished as a faction, all of it squandered. Thanks 343, you even ruin your own good ideas.

But really, would it kill them to actually fucking expand the universe? Why can’t they even add a new alien species without the excuse of the “Covenant Fringe” to say “oh akctshually, they where always part of the Covenant, we just didn’t see them in the games”. Fuck off 343, the Milky Way is a fucking galaxy, do you understand the sheer fucking scale of that setting? It’s not unreasonable in the slightest to assume the overwhelming amount of space is not under Covenant influence and control, and that there may be other alien factions out there to fight. Get creative guys, you really want to make your mark on this setting, how about you expand and enrich it instead of shitting on the ideas of people more creative then you?

@Anonymous #F9D1
Don’t even get me started on that shit, I have no idea how the fuck humanity could even afford the Infinity or the SPARTAN IV program, considering how you can afford an entire fleet of cruisers for the cost of one set of MJOLNIR armour.
On the list of positionally good ideas squandered: a game set in the interim between Halo 3 and (a much better mind) Halo 4, where the UNSC has had to be economical just to survive. It could develop the squad mechanics that Halo: Reach dabbled with and bring them up to Republic Commando levels, the story bringing back the Rookie from Halo 3: ODST as the player character, now the Sergeant of his own ODST team.

This game would return to the Halo: CE approach to gameplay where the protagonist was more of an elite version of a marine rather then a power armoured god of war like in 2 and 3. The ODSTs would be one of several units testing out a new combat harness designed with the assistance of Vergil and other Huragok defectors from the Covenant. Since we know they could generate shields around targets even without power armour, they would have created an experimental shield emitter that could be fitted into marine armour, hence how the player character could have shields similar to Halo: CE levels without power armour or regression in technology.

And they could use it to show off the factions the Covenant has dissolved into, and maybe introduce a couple new species into the canon, some of which humanity may actually try to make alliances with in an attempt to help restart their ruined economy with trade agreements.

Just one of the things I would make if I was in charge of post-Bungie Halo. I have a number of spin-off ideas that I think would be interesting…but enough about me I guess.

They have backed themselves into a corner and it would be hard for them to simply edit it out later, but repeating this again is where I think would the test would be.

>Kennedy was the one who originally proposed the joint Moon mission and Khrushchev rejected it at first but his son convinced him to accept the proposal a few months later.
Didn’t know that. May or may not have ended the Cold War but a massive amount of good will and peaceful precedent would have been established.

>I think Khrushchev was a true believer, and I think Kennedy was too. Not necessarily in the same things, but they really wanted to end the war and work toward the mutual benefit of both nations. That’s why Kennedy had to be murdered and Khrushchev replaced by a military pupped. There was too much money and power riding on keeping the war going to allow two starry eyed idealists to ruin the world with peace.
Interesting. I will certainly look into more of Khrushchev. I am a bit critical on and have a less idealistic view of Kennedy than some but I certainly agree: Lee Harvey Oswald wasn’t a lone wolf. Clearly Kennedy had contemplated such himself with his interest in Seven Days in May

>NATO’s implicit purpose was the anti-Russia club. The re-unification of Germany (something France protested) was a blatantly anti-Russian move. The expansion of NATO, after the Cold War ended and its purpose had ostensibly evaporated, was blatantly anti-Russian.
NATO’s purpose in the Cold War as a anti-Russian club I don’t see much of a problem so much as the natural way such a military alliance would be, even if I could agree that there was opportunities to cool down the Cold War. The expansion of NATO I think was done just as much, if not more, “the End of History” mentality. We had won the Cold War and we were going to spread the wonders of capitalism and junk food to every country and it was thought that Russia would be eventually just another one of those newly liberalizing states even if it took a little longer. Ignorance that even the most pacified liberal Russia would not fit neatly in that world.

>In the past century there has been untoward Russian aggression, particularly against the Poles, but most of the horrible things Russia has done has been a self-fulfilling prophecy of a West that has never even considered peace for centuries except for very very briefly in the early 60s.
Not sure I would agree 100% with this but certainly I think you can make that case with some parts of Western policy, like our current war!
There are two ways to prevent conflict: strength and diplomacy. Consider the American Eagle depicted on the Great Seal of the United States that’s also on our dollar bill. In one talon, the eagle clutches 13 arrows, and in the other it clutches an olive branch. This reflects our nation’s understanding of how to make and maintain peace since our founding: strength and diplomacy. This administration failed on both fronts.
First, President Biden failed to project American strength when he gutted our energy independence, canceling the Keystone pipeline on his very first day in office and restricting domestic energy production. Meanwhile, other NATO countries like Germany made themselves even more dependent on Russian gas by shuttering their nuclear power plants. Putin must have concluded that the West needed his gas too much to sanction him effectively. Next, the Biden administration botched the withdrawal from Afghanistan. The Afghan army that we had spent many years and countless billions of dollars to “stand up” was exposed as a fraud in a matter of days. Then our troops and their local allies beat a chaotic retreat from the country that revealed tactical incompetence in the general corps, with zero accountability to follow. Lastly, in the crucial days and weeks leading up to the war, Biden appeared to give the green light to a “minor incursion” into Ukraine by Putin’s forces, suggesting that wouldn’t necessarily trigger the sanctions and other penalties.
But of course in Washington there is never a shortage of those who will chide an administration for failing some test of strength in foreign policy. What is rarer and therefore more vital is to point out failures of diplomacy, which can just as easily lead to unnecessary war. And I believe our State Department failed in its diplomatic mission in the run-up to the Ukraine invasion.
Ever since the Bucharest Declaration of 2008, when NATO opened the door to membership for Ukraine and Georgia, the Russians have indicated that membership for these two border nations was an unacceptable “red line” for them. They quickly proved their seriousness later that year by invading Georgia and securing territory where predominantly-Russian populations were located. (Doesn’t that sound eerily familiar?) For the last 14 years, Putin and the entire Russian elite have spoken with one voice: NATO membership for Ukraine was an intolerable security threat. We ignored this red line, continuing to push for NATO expansion and transitioning Ukraine’s military onto a NATO platform even before official membership.
In response, a Russian troop buildup began on Ukraine’s border around the beginning of last year. This had the intended effect of getting the new president’s attention. Biden called for a summit and met with Putin in Geneva in June last year. We don’t know exactly what was said in the room but we do know that Biden said publicly at that time that corruption in Ukraine prevented its entry into NATO. Putin seemed mollified, and tensions seemed to abate. According to recent reporting by The Intercept based on U.S. intelligence sources, the Russian military buildup on Ukraine’s border started to subside after the Biden-Putin Summit and did not increase again until October/November. So what happened in between to upset the apple cart?
On September 1, Ukrainian President Volodomyr Zelensky visited the White House. This was the first such visit by a Ukrainian head of state, fulfilling one of Kiev’s long-standing diplomatic objectives. On that day, the U.S. and Ukraine issued a “Joint Statement” affirming deep economic and military ties between the two nations, including support for Ukraine’s NATO membership. This likely reflected weeks of back-channel negotiations that preceded Zelensky’s visit, suggesting Biden’s reassurances to Putin were dead-letter virtually from the day he made them. On November 10, Secretary of State Blinken and the Ukrainian foreign minister signed a massive 10-year Charter Agreement, which was the long-form version of the Joint Statement issued earlier.
Predictably, the Russians hit the roof. Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said they had reached “the boiling point.” They delivered a virtual ultimatum to the U.S. in December demanding written assurance that Ukraine would not become part of NATO. A month of furious negotiations began in January between Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Lavrov, during which Blinken gave no ground on NATO membership. In fact, he seemed proud of western intransigence, making statements like “There has been no change; there will be no change.” And: “NATO’s door is open, remains open, and that is our commitment.”
Yet that’s not what Blinken was saying privately. We now know, thanks to a stunning recent interview by Fareed Zakaria, that Zelensky was privately told that Ukraine wasn’t going to be admitted into NATO but that the door had to remain publicly open.
What could possibly be the rationale for this diplomatic approach? We refused to accede to the Russians’ most long-standing and important demand even though we privately admitted to Ukraine that we had no intention of following through. In other words, we refused to give the Russians “the sleeves off our vest,” a concession that was largely meaningless to us but of paramount importance for them.
Was it really so hard for us to imagine that the Russians might have a genuine concern about being encircled on a 1200-mile border by what they regard as a hostile military alliance? Aren’t diplomats supposed to be able to put themselves in the other guy’s shoes? Even if we see NATO purely as a defensive alliance, is it really inconceivable that Russia could see that vast military power as having offensive potential? After all, they watched NATO take offensive action to topple Moammar Ghaddafi in Libya and to bomb their Serbian allies during the Kosovo War. Is it really so hard to understand Russian paranoia about having American troops, weapons, and bases on their Ukrainian border, from which they’ve been attacked throughout history? The United States itself was willing to risk a nuclear confrontation with the Soviets over offensive weapons placed ninety miles off our shores in 1962, yet we treat the same concern by the Russians as crazy or a bluff.

Now, I disagree with some parts of this, but I am too tired to go into right now. The words “self fulling prophecy” certainly could fit with the United States dealings with Ukraine.

Not to downplay your own frustration, but I for one am quite satisfied and amused to watch Georgie’s slow-motion implosion. Knowing the pervert manbaby walrus who was so fucking jealous that he would never be good as Tolkien that he decided to crib off his name and then burn the genre he inspired in so many future writers will have a legacy of utter, absolute disappointment and failure makes me feel all giddy inside.

So long, Georgie boy! Looks like there was a fucking reason that Tolkien stands the test of time, and no amount of synonyms for ‘penis’ will ever compensate for it. Hope you choke on your next cake. :3

Good as in:
Russia has legit reasons to have a interest in Ukraine but has been odd/miscalculated?
A long term guerilla war might be unrealistic considering Ukraine’s grassland terrain?
Ukraine, while doing well in some areas, has still yet to be tested against the real bulk of Russian military assets and our perceptions are warped by tactical mistakes but Russia’s strategic initiatives are still quite achievable?

Disney is going to start developing gated communities for rich influencers. It’s called Storyliving, and it sounds like a Vault-Tec project to me.

This isn’t the first time Disney has done something like this. EPCOT was originally supposed to be a colony testing the viability of Walt’s vision for America’s future. They also have a town called Golden Oak in Walt Disney World, maintain a high level of control in a Disney-planned city called Celebration just outside Disney World, and are building both their own 55+ community and a new company town onto the already existing planned-community of Lake Nona, Orlando.

The difference between this Stoyliving thing and what they’ve done before is that when they built Celebration, they divested themselves of most of their control over the town. This time, they will be treating it like Golden Oak, fully owning it, despite being outside their resort. And unlike Celebration, which borders their resort, these Storyliving communities are planned to be spread all over the country.

As a final note, their first Storyliving community, the proof-of-concept one which is called Cotino, is going to be in Coachella Valley. California is already in the midst of a severe water crisis, to the point that even water rights holders like farmers aren’t getting their allotment. I don’t know where they’re planning to get the water to service this new Palm Springs suburb of theirs. This Cotino place is supposed to have a 24 acre ‘grand oasis’ at the center.

By popular vote one city can decide the fate of a whole country, and you think my example is nonsensical?
Also, you vote for this guy?
Austria’s chancellor, Karl Nehammer, said that from next Saturday, shops and restaurants would be able to stay open until midnight and the maximum number of people able to participate in events would rise from 25 to 50.
The country this week also became the first EU member state to make vaccination legally compulsory for adults under a law making those who refuse the jab liable for fines of up to €3,600 from mid-March, after an introductory phase.
Nehammer’s announcement came as Austria lifted a lockdown that – while proving difficult to enforce – has in principle barred those who have not been jabbed from leaving their home except for essential reasons since 15 November.
Restrictions on movement for the unvaccinated were lifted on Monday, although they remain barred from eating in restaurants or shopping for non-essential items as part of government efforts to boost what was western Europe’s lowest vaccination rate.
So-called “2G” rules banning those who have not been been vaccinated or recovered from the virus from non-essential shops will end on 12 February, with restaurants and tourist attraction also open to those with just a recent negative test a week later.
