it… it IS a console game. It started out on the Xbox360 arcade. It was ported to PC later, if I remember right. I recently saw the game’s remaster on the Xbox 1.

Castle Crashers was very replayable, thanks to unlocking new characters and ultra-hard mode. They also made BattleBlock Theater, a co-op based platformer which is also pretty good.

tbh, all of their games are really good. They clearly put a ton of work and love into them and it shows.

I need to replay Crashers sometime. I only went through it once (well, once and a half. I fucked up my first character royally and had to restart). And I tried getting into Battleblock but not even Stamper’s angel-voiced narrations could keep me going. Probably more fun multiplayer.

I don’t blame you. I had issues for a long time because the formatting code on Derpi was both so odd compared to what I was used to and also less useful due to how easy it is to fuck it up. There are some things that you just can’t do with it, or can’t do without hassle, due to the way it reads the the text for formatting that you could do quickly & easily with your classic [_][/_].

Made the mistake of jumping back into No Man’s Sky with the Desolation update. New save, and I’m already over 110 hours into it. 110 hours of looking for a blue grass lush with orange oceans, oceanic crystals, and no storms, in a 3* economy. Please send help.

Perfectly honest: Good is subjective. When the game was being advertised pre-release, it was supposed to be a walking simulator. All of the claims that Sean Murray lied about features are overblown misinterpretations of vague statements during interviews (example: the “multiplayer drama”), in much the same regard as Nintendo zealots throwing tantrums when a Nintendo Direct doesn’t match their unfounded expectations (such as happened with the last couple Directs). I personally really enjoyed NMS 1.0 for what it was, and occasionally wish I could go back to it from time to time.

That said, the vision of NMS has changed dramatically over the years. At its core it’s still a walking simulator, but with tons more fluff. To honestly enjoy it, you have to go in with a couple understandings (you’s here are generalized, not targeted):

  1. It is a near-pure procedural sandbox. It’s effectively 3D Starbound except with a decent (if equally minor) storyline. If you’re not about setting your own goals and making your own fun, it’s not the game for you.

  2. Major - title - updates are notorious for breaking saves in some way, shape, or form. Deleting saves and starting fresh after title updates is not uncommon and has historically been encouraged. If you make it to the end of the “Artemis Path” of quests, the revelation of the real backstory makes it a little easier to suspend disbelief and understand this as part of lore canon. If you can’t accept that, your enjoyment will probably last one title update.

If you like sandbox games that give you nothing and expect nothing in return (think raw Minecraft), with no linear story-play to speak of and the existential dread of playing in a universe that is larger than humanity has any legitimate chance to fully explore in a few lifetimes, then yeah it’s good. Especially so if you have a few friends that also play (doesn’t matter the platform, since it’s now true cross-platform). When I’m solo I make my fun playing the walking simulator, discovering new things and interesting permutations of environments, crawling derelict freighters (new to the most recent title update) and continuing the quest of finding my perfect planet while leaving a path of bases behind me while also seeking to discover an undiscovered “glitch” (as in a specific biome, not a bug) planet; with friends I enjoy helping them get their gear and build their bases, while knowing they’re benefiting from a launch-veteran’s experience to avoid potentially remaining critical bugs. But if you prefer clear goals or some semblance of linearity (such as the “golden thread” of quests in Elder Scrolls games) or fathomably-sized game worlds, then this just isn’t your game.

i love yellow horse
I’ve been playing the hell out of classic Doom games. There are so many mods that turn Doom and Doom 2 into entirely new games, sometimes with higher quality than the original campaigns. Right now I’m about halfway through a .wad called Doom The Way id Did, which tries to replicate the feeling and tone of the original but with entirely new maps and it’s pretty excellent.

Sounds cool. And as long is it does run like a 3D Starbound, it should be okay (good god, is that game put together poorly).

As a Starbound modder and beta veteran, I’m intimately aware of how shit it is. But, when you can get it to work “right” it has its fun.

That said, if you’re interested in NMS and don’t mind giving up your refund rights, make sure you check IsThereAnyDeal before buying. There’s almost always at least one authorized Steam key seller that has it on 50% discount.

EDIT: And if you want to see some gameplay not biased toward “subscribers” or “view count” or other bullshittery, hit me up on Steam and I’ll open up a broadcast of my inane play. We’ve crossed paths enough times in comments and discussion threads, it shouldn’t be hard to find me.
