That does sound really great and I’ll have to look for it lol.

Postal 2, the one everybody loves, is a broken, buggy mess of a game that lags like hell, crashes regularly, and is made entirely of juvenile peepee poopoo jokes and offensive stereotypes. You can chase a woman down the street pissing on her, and then get swarmed by cartoonishly middle eastern terrorists and groups of activists who think videogames are too violent lol.
I personally have fallen in love with it quite quickly.

Hell, I grew up in that era and missed most of them. I didn’t play Duke Nukem until I bought the 20th anniversary edition about a year ago. Had never even heard of Blood. Played a shit ton of the Shadow Warrior demo, though.

My era was more N64 and PS1. I didn’t find the cool shooty games until I tried out Doom 2016 despite not really liking shooters at the time. Turns out I like shooters a lot, just not modern style ones lmao.

Man I used to watch that guy waaay back, back when he went by zxnoregretzzxz and did long, mostly unedited minecraft lets plays. His content and style are basically polar opposites now lol.

I love his videos, they’re well part together and his desire to be as evil as possible in every game he plays makes for some good content.

Makes sense. I don’t enjoy many moderns ones, myself. I got into the genre because I liked being a walking arsenal taking on enemies by the dozens at a time. Not because I wanted to carry around two guns with barely enough ammo to reload twice and tactically fight three or four enemies at a time from behind cover.

I traded my N64 and all my games at the time for my brother’s PS1 just so I coul buy Grandia for it and play unhindered. No regrets. That game was awesome.

Might be able to find a used one with a bit of luck. They made a great many of the things, after all. Personally I wish Nintendo would just start selling a sort of “super console” capable of handling NES, SNES and N64 catridges. They could easily get away with charging a few hundred for something like that.

@Havoc
Do you ever hook them up to two TVs and play them both simultaneously?

I still have a working N64, though I don’t use it much. Beat Ocarina of Time again last year, probably my favorite N64 game, though I haven’t played Majora’s Mask yet.

@Officer Hotpants
TBH I wouldn’t regret that either. PS1 has more games I care about than N64 does. Not to dunk on the N64, or anything but it’s library isn’t that impressive looking back unless I’ve missed a bunch of classics. PS1 had 3 great Spyro games, 3 great Crash Bandicoot games, Wild Arms and countless other RPGs.
But, N64 did have Doom 64 tbf

There’s definitely that. PS1 was THE platform for RPGs, which were my jam and a half. But another problem is that some of the N64’s biggest titles didn’t really appeal to me. I hate Donkey Kong, for instance, and don’t much enjoy cart racers. And while Smash Brothers was… okay, I’m not big on fighting games in general. My N64 was mostly a Zelda/Golden Eye/Star Wars machine.

I’d have played the shit out of Doom64 if they’d given a single solitary indication that it wasn’t just another port of the PC Doom to a console (like the one on Playstation) but they didn’t and so I didn’t. Didn’t find out different until I found Civvie’s channel about three or four months ago.

Suikoden I and II, Final Fantasy VII, VIII, IX and Tactics, Grandia, Star Ocean: Second Story, Parasite Eve 1 and 2 (close enough), Legend of Legaia, Kartia: Word of Fate, Vagrant Story, Shadow Madness, Jade Cocoon, Breath of Fire III, Xenogears, Azure Dreams, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night (another close enough), Alundra, Tales of Destiny 1 (fuck 2 and the rest of the Tales franchise, don’t @me), Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete, SaGa Frontier 1 and 2, Digimon World 3, Vanguard Bandits, Legend of Mana, Chrono Cross… I wouldn’t go so far as to say PS1 was the definitive RPG system considering some of the gems on SNES, but the above list of quality PS1 RPGs definitely ranks it high.

There’s a reason it’s one RetroArch core I ensure stays up to date at all times.

@Azure Fang This actually happened way before we had a computer so back then I couldn’t do that at the time it died. Now I could but my computer is kind of slow and could have problems with games. I’m sad they haven’t released it on the VC on the 3DS or the Switch.

Emulation of everything pre-PS1 is so low resource at this point, you could be running a potato with a nickel and penny stuck in it and still play smooth. PS1 emus have generally been optimized as well, but take a tiny bit of tinkering to get smooth on low-end systems. It’s not until you start emulating PS2 that rig strength ever becomes a real factor anymore.

What’s funny is Nintendo system emulation is actually often the most forgiving. I’ve seen some really old rigs run Wii and DS emulators without much hassle. The issue comes from Big N and their team of copyright hounds sending love letters en masse for even thinking of acquiring copies of games you might even already own physicals for.

I should try and find a rom site to see if they house the game I’m looking for. Sadly I know that Nintendo doesn’t like rom sites so I know some have been shut down by DMCA’s from Nintendo. I also lost OG Pokemon Gold and Crystal.
