Funnily enough, the biggest reason I haven’t touched technical modpacks in ages is because they’re all stuck on ancient versions of minecraft, some even without the combat fix.

You’re missing out due to your thirst for larger version numbers. Also…

>new texture made by an artist instead of a texturer, resulting in patterned stone texture, blurry shit, et cetera
>Mojang: HURR GUYS WHAT IF WE STORED THE DOES-NOT-CHANGE-WITHIN-A-WORLD ID MAP IN EVERY CHUNK INSTEAD SO THAT SAVING ERRORS TURN WORLD INTO LITERAL CHUNKY SALSA?
>Mojang: HURR GUYS WHAT IF WE REWROTE RECIPE CODE TO BE SLOW AS FUCK SHIT TO ACCOMODATE RECIPE BOOK AND JSON RECIPES EVEN THOUGH IT COULD EASILY DO THAT FOR YEARS IN MODS?
>Forge: HURR GUYS WHAT IF WE MADE RECIPE SETS IMMUTABLE AFTER LOADING TO SHIT ON YOUR ABILITY TO CHANGE THEM ON THE FLY WITH MINETWEAKER?
>Forge: HURR GUYS WHAT IF WE MADE CONFIGS PER-WORLD INSTEAD OF PER-INSTANCE WITH NO AUTOMATIC INHERITANCE SO YOU HAVE TO FIX THEM EVERY TIME YOU MAKE A NEW WORLD?
>Mojang: HURR GUYS THE GAME IS TOTALLY CALLED FIGHT FIGHT NOT MINE CRAFT SO LETS FOCUS ON FUCKING COMBAT

also a lot of mods just felt like they had a lot going on for no reason or that went nowhere, even felt overwhelming
i mean if i want to spend days making a factory that only functions by the will of the omnissiah then i might as well just play factorio

I have Minecraft, but only for the PS3. Its good, but the main downside is the fact that the texture packs have to be bought with real money, though thankfully, its just cosmetic.

I’m counting on Rising World to be the Minecraft replacement we so desperately need. It runs smoother, it looks nicer, and tools that can instantly create walls, platforms, floors, and circles as big as you want with a few button clicks.

What about Rust?

Interesting insight. To be fair, at least Mojang isn’t as C&D happy as post-Iwata Nintendo, nor are they as disconnected from their playerbase as EA after 2006-2007 nor Blizzard.

Not really; some of the new biome generation is really good. I particularly like the deep oceans and the nether update.
Also I didn’t notice the crafting being slow at all.
The other stuff sounds retarded, but I can’t say I’ve noticed it either

Modding does all of that and better. Ditto their retarded negative coordinates thing: Cubic Chunks is a thing, relatively stable, and doesn’t have idiotic “we’re too afraid to do any actual changes so we just shit up the codebase and make it more difficult to adjust” coding pattern Mojang loves.
Also I didn’t notice the crafting being slow at all.
The vanilla furnace iterates through the entire recipe list 3 times per tick. It becomes REALLY noticeable in modded environment.
Also stuff like crafting table taking a second to show the result, and several seconds to actually craft anything, when before the retarded code changes both were instant.

It’s “Notch going I HAVE LEARNED ABSOLUTELY NOTHING and Mojang then going WE ARE NOT COMPETENT ENOUGH TO ACTUALLY IMPROVE ON ANYTHING” levels of coding, so approximately the same.
Oh and there’s physical, tangible proof of the possibility of rewriting recipe system to be faster, not slower. It’s called GregTech - Greg uses hash-based recipe lookup, and his system is just as fast, if not faster, as 1.7.10 vanilla recipes despite being several orders of magnitude more complex.

Disagreed. Larger modpacks have hilariously bad memory leak issues. It’s another thing that makes me reluctant to get back into FTB, that eventually I’ll have to restart the game because it decided to use 26 gigs.

Never had memory leak issues from large modpacks. Not even in Ascension of the Technomancer (don’t try to combine three different total overhauls/mods that overwhelm everything else, kids). Only badly written mods leak memory, and those can be in a pack of any size.
And it’s exacerbated by exceptionally incompetent memory handling by Mojang (how about having three identical copies of every object? Можем, умеем, практикуем; it’s one of the things foamfix resolves), so ironically the higher game version, the worse it gets out of proportion for added content.
It’s another thing that makes me reluctant to get back into FTB
FTB is shit. Has been for years. Play stuff like Enigmatica 2 or Gregtech New Horizons (ft. “you decided to drop support for older versions of MC? whoops we’re developing your mod now”) instead.

dam, that makes me not want to play it again. i mean i never actually bought it and just played the unnoficial free version, but i dislike when things or code arent properly optimized out of pure lazyness

hell, rust has constant performance updates every now and then alongside the other mayor content updates

Oh no, he's here?
@Mitchy
Shill away. As long as it’s on-topic, what does it matter? In the end it’s no different that waving your e-peen around sharing total playtime, an especially high score, a new mod you’ve published, or creative work in <insert sandbox here>.

And that’s awesome. I love seeing retro restorations. And bonus points for anything Bubble/Puzzle Bobble related. You going to make a cabinet for it?

Cats loved to sleep on top of them. They were fine electric cat butt warmers and also allowed them to hang their tails across the screen, or sit on top and reach down and try to catch the mouse cursor while you worked.
