Built in 1930 the Chrysler Building was both the first “supertall” building ever made (300 meters) and the first building to ever surpass 1,000 feet.
The Burj Khalifa, built in 2010, was the first “megatall” building (600 meters). It is one of only 4 completed megatall buildings, and remains the tallest. It is also the only building to exceed 700 meters (full height 829.8 meters). It will likely be the world’s tallest building for a very, very long time, with the only planned building designed to be taller, the Jeddah Tower, has been on hold since 2018 after the Saudi government was purged.
