There’s this tree Hevea brasiliensis called the rubber tree, and if you cut it it produces white sap called latex. And people have been using this material for almost 200 years now to make tires and stuff.
Well, in Europestan apparently the word latex means something totally different. I think they use it as a brand name for some specific synthetic material or something, I forget.
So I was having this discussion with someone and it was getting rather heated because we were both using the same exact word latex but the word meant different things so it appeared to each of us as if the other was talking total nonsense, because I was talking about the material latex that people have been using for centuries and this other person was talking about the brand named latex that’s only been around for 50 years or so.
Because no one ever, ever tries to understand multiple different perspectives it was up to me to discover, totally on my own, that there is this cultural difference between latex the material and latex the brand, and I had to totally on my own resolve this misunderstanding. And I wasn’t thanked for the effort either.
