I know that feeling. I used to consider myself a leftist as well, but recent events have pushed me more towards right-leaning communities. Ended up actually listening to some of their points (since they weren’t flung at me aggressively), and now I’m a simple centrist. only on the L/R axis tho, I’m anarchist trash on the other axis

I remember reading an article, a long time ago. It talked about what people are attracted to at the base level. Not psychological concepts, such as personality, money, “power”, or whatever, since all of these things are essentially “fetishes”, built up over the course of your life. All of those things, you get from your surroundings, family, society, etc.
 
It was about the most base biological attraction, without any conscious thought to explain why you are attracted to something, since, again, that means it’d be psychological, not biological. To achieve that, scientists hooked up volunteers to brain scanning machines and looked what, precisely, triggered responses in people’s heads.
 
It wasn’t exactly big boobs or fat butts. Main thing was “health” - which is, interestingly, mostly measured by how long your hair is. Makes sense - if you’re stressed, malnourished, sick, etc. your hair tends to fall out. Depending on length, hair might demonstrate good health for the last 2-3 years. Of course, there were also wide hips (or birthing hips, if you want to call them that), facial structure, scent, voice… but for ponies, we only have visual stimuli (and voices, technically? hm.)
 
So, think about that - plenty of ponies sport lovely, luscious, long manes. (and tails. I wonder if those count.) And there’s plenty of pony pictures with lovely, detailed rears+hips. Part of your attraction very well might be not because of the “exotic” factor, but the opposite - the biological signals you get from ponies are entirely compatible/comparable to what you’d get from humans.
