However, expiration of old accounts is absolutely real, and leads to data loss just the same.

That is suboptimal. Inconvenient and bulky. Like thread screencaps, this is a workaround at best.

If you let your pastebin remain inactive for too long, or if you nuke your account, they’ll usually recycle it (the free ones, not the lifetime ones). It’s also ridiculously easy to hack an inactive account.

Feature request: tag diff  
Basically take two images, highlight the tag differences between them, and have a convenient interface to merge the tags from one image into the other.
 
This would make tagging image sets a lot easier. Let’s say someone uploads five variants of the same image, poorly tagged. You find one and add a dozen tags, but then realise the outher four are still barely tagged, and you forgot which tags exactly are the ones you just added to the image you fixed. And since the variants are slightly different, it’s really not convenient to just nuke the old tags and replace them with the new ones. So you either copy-paste the raw tags into an external text editor and diff them yourself, or you go through the tags by hand to figure out which ones are missing and which ones should be added. Or you give up and let four variants sit with terrible tagging.
 
A tag diff from A to B would show which tags are missing from B and which tags are extra on B. Then you could easily transfer the tags you just added to A over to B, while taking care not to transfer any tags which might not apply to the variant B, and also you’d look over the tags B has extra and keep them (or, if the author mistagged the image and you fixed it on A, that’d be highlighted on B and you could fix that).

When Depri was The site to go to for pony pics, a pony image with a numeric id name could reasonably be expected to have come through there. You could then use this short id to quickly find more information about it.
 
Ponybooru, however, doesn’t have the luxury of being The pony site.  
I propose the addition of a prefix (or suffix) in the filename for an image download without tags.  
For example, 133391.png becomes pb133391.png or 133391.pb.png

This seems like a good idea. Might want to hold off on implementing it until the archive is fully copied, though.

How about a list that displays the accounts currently banned from the site at any given time? It wouldn’t display inactive/previous bans, just active bans. If done right, you could totally make it completely automated, all the info it would need would already exist, it would just get to grab it. I image it looking similar to the comment section, with a user’s icon and name + the ban length and reason. Imo it would be a great way to be transparent while requiring little up keep after being set up.

I have come into this thread to suggest exactly that.  
Ditto for validation codes; I think the site should be able to set up name and its shorthands to be used for that purpose.

An api would be nice.

I think the “site down” page should be like Derpi’s, overriding the content instead of redirecting to URL/502.html. Right now it messes up the navigation and doesn’t (or didn’t if you made it redirect to root) even work on the images because root/images/502.html doesn’t exist.

Some kind of “average processing time” counter would help.
 
There’s images on the front page that were uploaded an hour ago that have already been processed but a drawing I uploaded last night is still missing.
 
Need some way to know if I should report images that seem to have failed to process.

I would love a Pinned-Thread where changes in Site Staff are listed (with reasons if possible).  
I saw Raptorshy left the PR department (today?).  
Would be nice to know when that happens and if possible, with a reason. (With the option of course to keep it private if the Staff-member wishes the reason for thier departure to be private)  
It could also be a lovely place for the Staff-member to say thier goodbyes to the Community if they leave for good.  
Optionally it could also be posted within the Mod-Logs.

A thread to suggest featured images? And hopefully one that is actually looked at.

This is something being talked about right now, but its pretty low priority with everything else going on right now.
 
I personally would like to see work of lesser known/beginner artists that show promise being featured more often, as I feel like it could be a good way to bolster these artists drives to keep going. Can never have too many artists making qt poniponi after all. But like I said, it’s being discussed a bit here and there, and we’ll figure out a more regular thing in the near future hopefully.

Suggestion 1: Forum categorization ideas: Rename the general discussion category to Non-Pony discussion. In my opinion, the term general doesn’t properly express the category’s intent.
 
Add a new category called something along the lines of ‘Forum Fun’ for threads like You’re Banned, We Can Only Talk In Pictures, The Word, etc. When making threads like these, it can be very hard figure out/know what category to put them in, so a category for them to belong would be nice.
 
A Pony discussion category would be nice too, as the episode discussion category is rather limited in scope.
 
Edit: I think an uploader(or whatever you what to call it) thread category might be worth thinking about. There are plenty of pony art in places other then derpibooru, so being able to communicate with other uploaders without threads getting buried could be useful.
 
Suggestion 2: A tagging system for forum threads. Unlike the image tagging system, this one could be mainly used to detail the rules of certain threads.
 
For example: tags like Safe, Adult, NSFW, etc. could be used to convey rules, while tags such as Forum Game, Character Appreciation, Theory, etc. could be used to allow users to more easily find threads or check if threads already exist to prevent duplicate forums.

Two would be useful, but can be accomplished without coding ‘tism with just putting such tags in the title of the thread on creation (as NSFW is already such a thing to have present from the Derpibooru days). One’s probably also a good containment idea.

technically true, but the other point of two is to allow people to more easily find specific forums without having to use a bunch of syntax that confuse most people. Plus having to put things like NSFW in title can easily forgotten and can seen or awkward next to certain titles. It can also be used by the default filter to allow for less chance that the show’s target audience see and read things inappropriate for them.

Given what’s already happened with G4, the ‘target audience’ of that era is mostly of-age, and i doubt most younguns are gonna find us given that Philo boorus are by default not crawled by engine bots, last i checked.
