At this point, I’ll take anyone other than another anime swordsman. I mean, I’m glad it was Sephiroth and not another fire emblem character, but the oversaturation of fire emblem sword wielders kinda ruined my excitement to see another final fantasy character in the game.

Not that I’ll ever play a SMB past Brawl (so excuse me if this lists any characters that made it in post-Brawl), I’ve always had a shortlist of characters I would’ve loved to see (games and first Nintendo system appearance in parentheses):

Amaterasu (Ōkami, Wii)
Bub/Bob (Bubble Bobble, NES)
Will/Freedan/Shadow (Illusion of Gaia/Time, SNES)
Vanessa Z. Schneider (P.N.03, GCN)
The Master/God (ActRaiser, SNES)
Blazer (Soul Blazer, SNES)
Mr. Diaz/Slater (Hybrid Heaven, N64)
Duke Nukem (Duke Nukem 64, N64)

Just saw your comment. I’d’ve killed to see Kefka Palazzo or Terra Branford from Final Fantasy VI, but I gave up on seeing anything from Best Final Fantasy a long time ago.

If you can get bluetooth to work correctly (just gonna assume you’re on Win10), Dualshock 4’s are god for Steam (and RetroArch, if you are an emulator fan), and supported natively by Steam. Bonus: they have a wired fallback. However, be prepared for bluetooth to just not work, lose pairing every reboot, and be an overall hassle. I wire mine in and never have a problem. Downsides: Already mentioned bluetooth difficulties, extremely sensitive to cord damage, dinput glyph support in games is rare without mods (expect to have to learn what ABXY are), and support outside of Steam requires baked-in support or third-party software.

XB360 controllers work natively with Windows in general (optional official driver download needed for Win7), but you need to buy a Wireless Receiver and deal with the swapped d-pad and left stick. There are tons of options for aftermarket receivers, so those are generally cheap. Real downside: no built-in battery. Have to keep AA’s on hand or get a recharge pack. No wired fallback (proprietary cord and port are power-only).
EDIT: Apparently, XBone controllers are better due to still being in production and have a wired fallback, but I’ve never personally used one and thus can’t comment.

If you can find one, and can deal with the touchpads, the Steam Controller is actually pretty solid and extremely customizable. Downsides: Have to use AA’s, no wired fallback, product discontinued.

Haven’t tried any third-party devices since driver recognition varies from device to device.

Dart (Legend of Dragoon)

Yeah, that’s fair. How about
Lucca or Robo (Chrono Trigger)
Lavitz, Meru or Rose (Legend of Dragoon)

As much as I’d like someone from Zone of the Enders, it would be hard to make them work.
Why do we choose the hypothetical Smash characters we do?

Some really good ones there. Haven’t heard of Tenchu in a while, that would be great!

And for your question, it’s either guys like these or Goku/Shrek. Take your pick.

Eh…I’m more interested in open world RPGs these days….I’m thinking maybe getting S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Somehow that’s an old game that got past me, but the reviews are saying it’s exceptionally good. Might give it a try.

I managed to get a 3060ti at retail price. Asus dual fan card. Nothing like a ‘ROG STRIX’ version or whatever but I don’t really care, the model I have still has a beefy cooler and minimal flashy RGB crap which is a plus to me, and I should be able to overclock it plenty.

Now to wait for it… gonna be till like Jan 5th sadly.

Nice get. Retro enthusiast or modding/homebrew enthusiast, and are you going to refit it with better fans and paste to improve its longevity? I own a CECHA01 myself (no buyers luck, just an early adopter) and, when I use it, I treat that thing like it’s worth its weight in 2008 platinum.

How open world are you talking? “Small but everything has content” like the early Divinity’s, or “Huge, but tons of empty space” like The Elder Scrolls/Bethesda-Fallouts?

I’m definitely of the “buy something more powerful and then never use it full blast” variety. I take care of my things so that my things will take care of me for years to come.
