The concept CAN be interesting, but usually it ends up being “uhhhh, why is this a cartoon with ’toon characters and not a movie?”. Especially due to massive amount of skill it takes to pull off figuring out how those things interact or would develop; for starters, magic invalidates 99% of resemblance to IRL technological progress - the inventions might serve same purpose in the end, but they would come to be very differently and work by different principles, like telegraph by bottled dragonfire instead of electricity..
