I can think of multiple things you might mean, and the answer to all of them is “yes”.

Does that mean it’s some equivalent to the “perfect pony plot provider” or similar autism for derpi?
Has it been revealed anywhere what the requirements for the squirrel and alicorn badges are?

I’m a little leery about flavor text in general, after Derpi staff used to weave insults into the custom text on some users badges.

I think badges are a pretty charming way to see achievements (what one considers an achievement is to be determined) and participation on events done in the site, and while we should start with the basic set and some funny ones, I think that going forward we should keep this little tradition/game of sorts!
A nice carry-over from the old site, but these are just my two cents.

I just like collecting little trinkets in general. It’s amusing.

I can get behind some collectible fun, and if it comes with some flair for the profile its always nice too. Everyone wins!
The symbolism of this first ‘liberty bell’ badge it’s a really nice touch though.

Fair enough! The site is barely in its infancy so its all a test run so far, but you are right that there must be a level of measure to try to not fall on the same missteps as Derpi.
I do think that it doesn’t come into conflict with having flair badges for events, collabs and things like that though! People should have fun and enjoy interacting with the site if they want, or that’s how I see it at least.

When badges were first introduced in derpi, I said my concerns about having too many badges and proposed to let users choose 5 badges to display (via UI, not via self-report), and let the rest of the badges be displayed in subprofile page, like in dA. I was dismissed and laughed off by dp staff.
