Alright, badges are usually fucking gay, but I just want some kind of shitposter badge like the ducks. Why? Because that shit is fun

There have been talks of badges amongst us, including a possible founder/early adopter sort of badge.  
Certainly nothing official yet and nothing set in stone
 
We’re currently more focused on ensuring we have stable foundations and squashing bugs first.
 
While badges aren’t high on our list right now, we do hear you and we are paying attention.

Derpibooru and Ponybooru are separate entities, it is completely up to derpiboorus mod team and community if their platform ends up dying.
 
If their site dies, we’ll welcome their refugees with open arms. But this booru will remain running on our principles, not theirs.

Honestly, i’d rather not have badges at all, but it seems this is a minority opinion. Can’t wait for the badge chains that break site UI until it’s patched again.

I agree with limiting badges. I think if there are very few badgest, then “artist”, “tagger/uploader” and “writer” badgest can be actually useful, since you’d be able to tell what a user does at a glance. But they should not be cumulative (i.e. higher tier badges should replace lower tier ones), and meme badges should not exist since they’ll just clutter the bar and make it useless again.
 
And a shitposting badge, of course.

Badges are a fun little accessory and give people a reason to stay active. I think limiting them is great, but we shouldn’t be afraid to have a couple fun ones.

If I look under your name and I see a badge for “artist with 500 uploads” for example, that is useful and tells me something. If I look under your name and see “llama”, “april fools 2030!”, “participated in the 8th of september orgy”, “monthly donator reward”, “artist with 500 uploads”, “all-time donator reward”, “some IRC quote”, “custom donator perk badge”, then by the time I get any useful information it would’ve been faster to just go to your user page to check your artist tag.
 
I guess “a couple” of fun ones can’t hurt too much. You’d need to be very careful in choosing the “couple” though, to make sure they’re appropriately special and don’t start a slippery slope of “there’s a badge for X, it would be good if we made one for Y!”.

I literally only want a shitposter badge. I had one on derpi, I would like one here. Fuck the rest of them.
