DeSantis signed it. As of June 2023, Disney will no longer be governing Disney World. I’m kind of surprised he actually signed, at least this quickly. He had ten days, Sunday not included, to sit on it. My thought was that he would see what Disney would do first.

This is likely to have some knock-on effects. Disney’s Lake Nona company town is probably dead in the water, now that they have to reevaluate Florida’s profitability vis-à-vis California’s. Without that, their Lake Nona retirement community is also probably not happening.

Rogue One is shit. Everything produced by Disney and stamped with the Star Wars brand label is soulless, woke-pandering, corporate shit.

@Dex Stewart
Wait, so Disney cancelled a shitty lesbian cartoon and pissed off a bunch of leftist Twitterites? Well look at that, they actually managed to do something right for once. Maybe there’s hope for American mass entertainment after all.

Pick one.
And a gay couple who are barely seen.
So in other words, typical Disney stuff: pandering to the woke Twitter crowd while also making sure not to offend their Chinese overlords. What a twist.

They will make sure it is easy to edit out, just like gay Dumbledore was. Hollywood knows how to be woke to the goys but based to the Chinamen. If they don’t, it is just low-budget loss-leader Disney+ fodder for California liberals.

I disagree with you on this. If the Owl House isn’t your cup of tea, that is fine. You know, with the woke Tumblr and twitter crowd bitching, kicking and screaming about “muh representation” and “muh pronouns”, ““gender studies”” bullshit, virtue-signaling, and whatnot, I can hardly blame you for the bad taste you have in your mouth and feelings of resentfulness towards openly non-hetero characters in fiction (for the most part, at least). The so-called ““progress”” flag was never needed, overall, fucking tacky and clashing hues design to boot.

I can’t say I agree with you on Disney never having made anything good involving Star Wars. I agree that the complete throwing out of the pre-2014 EU from the realm of canon was too much, but Rebels had its moments here and there. Truly, the world between worlds stuff is one of a number of things from the Disney-Era canon that is divisive among many fans, ditto for some of the Marvel and IDW SW comics. Rouge One, along with Solo, were handled and produced by a different crew than was the hackneyed, and largely uninspired Sequel trilogy. At first, I gave Disney a chance with their handling of Star Wars, and I must say that Rogue One is a better movie than any of the pet-directed sequels. To me it was the lightning in the bottle for Disney-era Star Wars. Anywho, Star Wars fans, possibly even more so than Fallout fans, are often a fickle bunch. Truly, it hit the breaking point with the TLJ.

They really are pushing the envelope too far. This isn’t really needed, Overall. Ultimately, its meant to play both sides.

Sure, they will make it easy to edit out for Mainland China. One caveat over here though

For me, anything pushing an agenda that is completely against my interests loses most of it’s intrinsic value. It is hard to enjoy something lecturing you and increasingly hard to enjoy anything even hinting at supporting the people who hate me. Even if it is objectively good, it’s like a very well-written Fuck You letter. Sure it might have objective quality, but it serves a purpose that I can’t appreciate.

I said ‘maybe.’ I guess I’m just vainly holding out hope that corporate America might someday come to its senses and stop putting out all this woke nonsense. In the meantime, one less overtly pro-LGBT show on national TV is at least something worth celebrating. Silver linings and all that.

@Dex Stewart
If anything, I think this screenshot perfectly illustrates my point. Season 9 was where the showrunners dropped all pretense of respectability and started officially designating certain characters as lesbians for whatever reason. And wouldn’t you know, season 9 fucking sucks.

I think we should have more LGBT stuff.
Power Rangers Dino Fury has a lesbian couple and it’s the only thing done well in that show. PR is usually ass when it comes to relationships.
Also I think mlp sucked after season four. There’s really only one episode I can’t stand, and that’s the one with Fluttershy’s douchebag brother.

We already have far more than is proportional. Besides, romance stories are always the worst side stories. I don’t want to see straight, gay, or anything else romances unless there is a payoff, then I don’t care. We aren’t getting that in kids shows, at least for another 10 years.

I’m not a fan of romantic sideplots, but Owl House handles it pretty well. I know there’s other examples, but I don’t follow alot of modern cartoons closely.

And I think the notion of any more LGBT content taking up space in American pop culture is vomit-inducing. It seems we’ve reached an impasse. Agree to disagree, I guess.

Fair enough.

Not any kind of Minority or “Diversity” representation is needed in entertainment. A show can be about two straight white men sitting in a room, and as long as they have personalities that play off each other and are doing something interesting it can be an amazing watch.

Writers who are making content for mature audiences of all media should be allowed to write their stories however they want and let the audience judge their work on the merits. Some minor concessions need to be make for content directed at children obviously but I don’t think anyone really argues about those. Well, except for groomers anyway.

This issue I have with the line of logic in this thread arises when people start having violent kneejerk reactions to the simple presence of a gay character within a story, rather then the actual problem this creates for the text itself. As a general rule, you should only give your audience information that’s going to be important for them to remember, so if a character’s romance is not going to have any impact on the main plot, it should never come up at all.

This is one of those actual problems with shoehorning in Queer and Tranny faggotry into characters, because it almost never has any bearing on the plot at all, and if it does it’s only so the writer can give us a sermon on their(xir?) interpretation on “LGBT RITES” which always boil down to “saying things I don’t like makes you a monster” and is aimed directly at the audience, which obviously draws the reader/viewer right out of the story.

Conversely, there are some stories with gay characters that actually are enriched by their portrayal and the story as a whole would be worse if you removed them or straight-swapped them, and I consider that to be just as bad as what the SJWs are doing.
…funilly enough though, these characters never meet the Intersectionality-Approved “Queer” definition, so they’re probably considered fake/token gays. Strange how that works, healthy and enriching depictions of gay relationships are “tokenism”, proper representation requires you to put degenerate queers front and centre.

I have to say, you make a lot of good points here. Bravo.

I remain unconvinced that any kind of mass entertainment (Disney-produced or otherwise) that includes lesbians is something even remotely worth my time, though.
