@Barhandar
No, the minimum level of gatekeeping for the pony community to exist is acknowledging bad actors. We, as the pony community banning art we don’t like that is made by members of the pony community, even people we don’t like, that ARE pony related, even if YOU don’t like it (and let’s be honest, that’s what you’re
really saying here), is unacceptable. It is the
exact same argument that Derpibooru used to censor art they didn’t like. We
don’t employ bad tactics just because they suit us. It is just as bad when
you do it as when
they do it.
@Sapphie
“but there’s got to be a limit”
No there doesn’t. It costs us virtually nil to allow that picture to exist. No one’s interpretation should be placed over another when it comes to artistry. If the artist is consistent that this is supposed to be an artistic rendering of Twilight Sparkle, no matter how much I personally dislike the art, so long as they are not proven to be taking the piss, it should be assumed they are acting in good faith as a member of the community and their art should have a place amongst a fandom archive.
Even if they are taking the piss it could be argued that their work is still fandom related as an attempt to specifically rile up members of the fandom. If it looks like a generic cat, so be it. Not all artists are excellent, nor are all artists incredible at conveying their meaning but the value of artistic and community integrity for those who act in good faith, possessing artistic intention directed at creating even their own interpretation of pony content, so long as it is, in fact, pony related and not completely disconnected from the concepts presented in the show and fandom, must be sustained.
We have filters for a reason. We have and have used the ‘Barely Pony Related’ tag, and it’s easy enough to filter it if you don’t want to see content that is only fandom related or doesn’t actually have a pony in it.
And, it should be noted: I don’t like humanized content. I don’t like, for the most part, alternate species interpretations. But I will stand by the people who do create them, the same as I stood by the people who drew Aryanne.
