Which was me trying to parahprase last year’s semi-canon OCs rule:
No canon characters, at least not as the main focus of the image; kinda defeats the purpose (plushies and merch are allowed). We haven’t decided how we feel about semi-OCs (i.e. original/alternate interpretations of canon characters) yet. We might have to decide on a case by case basis (for instance, “fluttershy but she’s raptor” would be allowed, while “Lyra in a tux” wouldn’t count as an OC)
We will consider “a corrupted version of Sunset” if we think it is sufficiently different enough from regular Sunset.

I mean heck, it might just take us that long to track down the thought criminal who voted “no theme” and execute them for treason in Minecraft!
For legal reasons, I need to specify that was intended as a joke, I am not being serious about actually hunting someone down and doing/inciting harm for picking a valid option in a poll that we set up ourselves, okay Australian Police? Go find a gangland shooter or child molester to arrest ffs, do your actual fuckin’ job.

Take your time with everything. We aren’t in a hurry to finish it. I just extended the deadline by seven hours, and I could always push it back further.
I just think that having a deadline will motivate us to complete it within a reasonable amount of time, and prevent this project from being forgotten about and abandoned.

I’d say this whole thing is still in the planning stage. After all, the theme was JUST decided on…
Two months isn’t too bad of a time frame, but yeah, I can see where you’re coming from.. that date is gonna come up quicker than one would expect… the ball will have to get rolling pretty quick…

I was kinda hoping that all furniture and other assets would be separate from the background entirely. That way I can add any assets as needed rather then being stuck with a set layout with either too many or too few characters to fill those spots.
Of course having some empty slots, chairs, or tables wouldn’t be out of the question just to either fill in some empty spaces or simply make the area look more proper.
Depending on the overall turnout this could either look like the Las Pegasus type of casino or potentially a more mundane/simple one being from Ponyville or the like. Mostly depending on how the style of the background is and what I have to work with in regards to that.

At the very least, it would be nice to coordinate a theme for the furniture design so that if people want to provide their own (which I’m considering doing) so that we don’t have wildly different designs for everything.
This might be the most ambitious Community Collab project yet, but if we can successfully pull it off it will be amazing.

Will we be able to get a sneak peek at what the background image will look like? Might help some people think of certain poses and/or what they can interact with. I guess overall I’m not sure how the idea of someone sitting at a slot machine might play out in practice (if that’s something people are doing)- if the artist draws their own slot machine, or it’s implemented in the background image itself.

It won by a margin of 6 votes, and I guarantee there were no last-minute ballot dumps.
I really mean it. No new votes came in during the last hour, and I watched that thing like a hawk!

I’ve decided to go ahead and make the rule adjustments I said I would (raised the limit to 6, deleted the bits about ranking and an obsolete (and admittedly ill-conceived) one-per-person group submissions rule.
I hope that simplifies and clarifies things. I fear that having a convoluted rule set would scare people away, especially regarding the multiple OC’s rule.

I also added a bit about submissions opening on July 4th (which just happened to be the day when the poll closes; I just set it for seven days) so people know when to begin posting.
The deadline is in September so there’s no rush. I know how busy and hard-to-reach some artists can get.

I would say go somewhat with how I worded it on the previous page. Don’t really give a limit as there will probably not be a large amount of submissions posted so limiting the already few artists shouldn’t be necessary. Allow them to draw their OCs, their friend’s OCs, community OCs, and just other community member’s OCs. Like I mentioned about if only a few artists want to draw all of the OCs… then I say just let them go for it.
Currently I haven’t seen any submissions at all yet so the more open we are to accepting some, the better. We don’t want it to look empty after all.
However… if we do somehow start getting bombarded with submissions then maybe we could look into a cap per user’s OCs, followed by a per artist cap if it actually begins to get excessive. Combination submissions (with multiple OCs) shouldn’t be bad as long as the spacing between characters is minimal. That also shouldn’t really count against any limits that could be imposed. If we get multiple group submissions, then as long as they are grouped nicely and not too spread out, it should be fine even if it’s by just one or two artists.
Regardless though, it all depends on the scale and layout of the background design and pose/interaction choices. Perhaps limiting specific poses to some degree wouldn’t be bad though. Such as flying characters, slot machine actions (arm or foreleg lifted to pull lever), or game table poses (holding cards, holding/rolling dice, placing bets or interacting with chips on a table. Simple sitting poses, standing poses, or even some basic walking poses really shouldn’t be a problem, so having a lot of them should be fine.
Overall though a lot of this at such an early point in this process will be speculation and blind guessing. I would say just let it play out for a while and then we could step in with limits if we really need to. But unless a lot of the Derpi crowd starts joining in, I really doubt any limits would be needed.

I have been insisting that the rule we currently have in place is probably too convoluted for most users to understand and that we should simplify it to just a blanket 4 or 6 character limit and delete the part about character ranking, and I think I’ll go ahead with that unless you object. Do you think that’s reasonable, or would you prefer I do something else?

I think everything we’ve been talking about so far has been based on questions people have asked. Every rule we haven’t discussed is just a rewording of one of last year’s rules.

It would probably be best to discuss anything first before coming up with rules out of nowhere about things. Even just openly asking in the forums here or just directly messaging among us that are working on it first would be fine. That way any single person avoids conflict from a rule they put out and they also get to work out how best to implement any rules or to avoid unnecessary ones before rolling them out.
But you can certainly just stick to the background designs and stuff related to that. I can stick to composition of the final thing. Twiface can stick to the more open discussions and general QnA stuff that might pop up. But we can all still discuss whatever might come up overall as well. Just as long as whatever we come up with will be helpful. Otherwise we can just not bother making rules/answers to questions that haven’t been asked yet.

Multiple characters in a single submission as well as multiple submissions should be fine. The only limiting factor will be what the background layout is, but it shouldn’t be too constricting overall. Even if it’s just the handful of us already here throwing characters in it will be fine.
Our second selling point is that we allow more content to be posted here then on Derpi. There’s the obvious one in regards to filly characters of a certain design, but also characters that caused the fracturing of Derpi to begin with (Aryanne for instance). We are more relaxed on posting rules overall here.

I’m going to focus all of my effort into organizing the background and assets with the artist. The assets will include things like chairs, stools, gaming tables and other relevant props that all entries can use. Come to me with questions about that from now on, I’m done trying to sort out the rules. Especially when some people don’t even fucking read them before giving up on this entirely.

I have read through these 2 pages multiple times and I’m not sure I understand what’s happening. I’m think my objection was addressed already, about the multiple characters posing together, including one of the pictures from the previous image I was thinking of specifically as an example being approved of now.

Meaning: 1 person can have multiple OCs posing together like in the previous collabs.
That was really my only issue, and if that’s now okay then I’m all good.
I’m not worried about the site growing tremendously seeing as how our only selling point is “we’re not derpi”

I was wondering if and how many assets would be created, and how many would be made, so I can plan my submission.
For example, for the casino I want a character interacting with one of the table games, and I was wondering if I should ask the artist to include a table as part of the submission or just make a character to be placed next to an asset provided by somebody else.
No reason to randomly throw around arbitrary limits and such when we probably won’t have crazy amounts of submissions to begin with.
Yeah, I don’t recall any of the other site’s collabs having limits on numbers of characters, given that most people only submit one. Though it might be a good question to consider for future community collabs if the site grows, just so we don’t end up with a convoluted mess like Derpibooru’s collabs.
I’m tempted to raise the character limit to 4 or 6 and/or delete the other bits about ranking and characters being together, just so we have clear and concise rules that everyone can understand. But I don’t want to act unilaterally here. Does anyone else agree that I should just do that?

Even if they’re smart enough to understand, they won’t if we can’t explain it well enough. All the other collabs have rules simple enough that they can be listed as bullet points, and my list was initially just me paraphrasing last year’s rules as written by Acres (with the AI ban added by popular demand).
