First time I’ve heard of the term, and can’t find an immediately obvious source for it.
Deus Ex used the transliterated russian word because it sounds more sci-fi than “lobster”, but it’s coined by Bruce Sterling, not them. Using the Deus Ex option means no tag conflicts with any actual crustaceans.
Seems to me, cyborg, exoskeleton, augmented should cover it quite adequately…
Doesn’t allow to distinguish between integrated and non-integrated exoskeletons. Any Loyalist Space Marine is a cyborg in an exoskeleton but not an omar (unless dreadnought), for example.
So it’s a specific form of artificial skin (if skin-deep) or body prosthesis (if it affects muscles, bones etc).
Again, not a prosthesis. The original body isn’t removed, it’s remade in-place.

Power armor or armor is how one refers to “non-integrated exoskeletons.”
There. Distinguished.

The original body isn’t removed, it’s remade in-place.
A meaningless distinction.
Just because it happens bit by bit over time doesn’t mean the organic body isn’t getting replaced with artificial components.

@Exhumed Legume
Exoskeleton does not have to be power armor. The added weight tolerance naturally results in desire to bolt armor on, but it’s still only the support framework, not armor itself. Additionally omar is by definition power armor as well - fusing with it doesn’t stop it being PA.

OK so according to you ship of Theseus is a full-ship prosthesis even though it was replaced by parts functioning the same way, just better. You’re clearly not British.

Exoskeleton does not have to be power armor.
Which is why I differentiated between the two (and included the regular, non-powered, version of a worn shell in my tag recommendations).

it’s still only the support framework
We call those exosuits ’round these parts.
The exoskeleton tag is currently full of, well, literal exoskeletons.

Additionally omar is by definition power armor as well - fusing with it doesn’t stop it being PA.
Call me crazy, but “power armor” should be reserved for the discrete worn object that can be taken off/exited, rather than something that’s part of you.

OK so according to you ship of Theseus is a full-ship prosthesis
OK, so according to you, a cybernetic limb, no matter how fully integrated, isn’t part of you unless built in place by nanomachines, son.

We’re talking artificial replacement body parts here, not fixing artificial things with artificial parts – planks aren’t prosthetics.
Doesn’t matter if the replacement happened in one big surgical operation, a trillion microscopic ones, or something in between, it’s still an artificial replacement for an organic body part at the end of the day. Simple as.

OK so (some) Chaos Space Marines are magically not wearing PA because they’ve been fused with it.

You keep saying “organic” like it’s a distinction. Bioborgs exist. An organic prosthetic is still a prosthetic, and not prosthetic replacement can still be organic.

Yes.
If you’ve been fused with a thing, if it’s been incorporated into your body, you’re no longer wearing it.

An organic prosthetic is still a prosthetic, and not prosthetic replacement can still be organic.
Transplant.
The word you’re looking for is transplant. 🙃

But OK, a character that’s been restructured by nanomachines, son, to be different superior kind of living tissue – as opposed to the body part(s) being replaced by technological components – obviously doesn’t have prosthetic replacements, but I fail to see how that’s relevant to cyborgs, which – by definition – are amalgamations of flesh and tech.

I’ve done some of the aliases requested. I’ve left the source for this argument untouched, though. I’ll need to think it through and bring it up to the mod team

@Sapphie
Honestly, I’m not sure why we’re even still going; agreement was already reached on the tag definition and implications (or lack thereof), and in the hands of you mods.

Now we’re just lost in the weeds about the possibly-blurry (and kind of irrelevant for tagging purposes – just tag what you see and adjust for Word Of God if available, as always) lines between cyborgs and power armor, and biomods crept into it too for some reason.

At this point, it feels like Bar just likes arguing.
