processing does take into account length, typically the site will optimize the file size by utilizing compression and possibly file extension changes. bitchute uses .mp4 if I remember correctly.

Yes I am. “Making content” is sitting in front of a webcam. When someone who does basically zero work and is able to con gullible people into getting tremendous amounts of money that is wrong. Look at that one e-thot who made $1 million in a day from conning gullible simps on onlyfans. That is wrong.

@Havoc
You know there was that one guy who spent 50 years making a model town in his basement, did a billion times more work than anyone sitting in front of a webcam, and he never made anything off of it. Everyone who made videos, on New Grounds or wherever, even early Youtube, before ads were invented, creating some of the best content the Internet has ever seen, they all did that for free.

“Give X amount incommensurate to what it cost to make this video and you’ll get your name in the credits.” “Give in the Super-Mega-Thirsty Boi Tier and you’ll get to see my tits.”

This is the same scam as the people who hide the pea under the cup, or traveling hucksters who used to sell snake oil phony cures before they got kicked out of town. It’s tricking gullible people into getting something that they could easily get for free. Sure, it takes a lot of talent to be able to scam people, but that doesn’t make the act itself morally justified.

Okay, I will admit that people conning others out of money that they do not do work for is wrong. But some people do put genuine effort into making their content genuinely interesting. And I think it’s a bit unfair to say that that is not hard work because other people do not do hard work.

Your assuming that the people who made those early videos wouldn’t have wanted to make money off of them in the first place. Can you really tell me that if they could’ve had advertisements and made money off them they would’ve said no?

I’ll admit it was a poor choice of words. There are people who work hard making videos, but it’s not the same as working hard as a carpenter, or a surgeon, or an actuary.

Now if people use their video platform to advertise physical products that they make (say a youtube musician is selling CDs, back when CDs existed, or is advertising a concert, or someone is writing books or making posters or knitting scarfs or something), that’s a physical thing that someone can own, or even advertising a service like “I’ll write the code for your website for a fee,” that’s different. It’s not “Give me money so I don’t have to get a real job,” (which a lot of youtubers say in their videos when they beg for money, although they’ll use weasel words “give me money so youtube can be my full-time career”).

I also have no problem with crowdfunding for if your house is destroyed in a flood or if you have cancer and need ridiculously (immorally) expensive treatment*, or even crowdfunding to develop a game, that’s also different, because, again, that’s a real thing that exists in the physical world.

A video is not a “thing”, and most of the successful youtubers make videos reading scripts they didn’t write, that are copypasta from other online articles, or ranting on camera (often the stupid multi-cam setup that I can’t stand because I don’t want to look at the side of someone’s head), and they become popular by either 1. being attractive young women, or 2. repeating certain phrases that resonate with certain groups who they know are likely to give them money, or 3. clickbait (which often involves attractive young women who don’t appear in the actual videos).

The people who spend years developing amazing talents don’t really have potential for making ad revenue, and being young and attractive or having a nice voice and reading articles someone else wrote isn’t something that anyone actually worked for.

I gave the example of Pat Condell who did say no. He refuses to monetize his videos or ask for donations because he believes, as I do, that videos should be free.

Neil Patel has a video explaining why he doesn’t put ads on his videos or beg for donations. He does say at the end “Do it if you want,” but he also says “I believe in karma and you should help others because it’s the right thing do do.”

*And I do believe that the cost of healthcare is immorally expensive. A full dose of Rabies prophylaxis in the US costs $40,000 yet it costs maybe $20 in India. An ambulance ride costs $2,000 per mile.

I provided free promotion for the makers of Never Hike Alone, and I’ve also donated money to them, but they’re Making a movie, not a video.
I don’t expect money,if I make some cool, but Im just having fun and making the kind of videos I’d want to see.
I don’t have editing equipment though,so I have to keep things simple.

I’ve never heard of it.

Also, with making movies, because they almost always require paying off government officials for permission to shoot on their precious dirt, that does require money. I guess shooting does inconvenience the locals, but there’s just something that doesn’t sit right with me. I don’t know.

Then again, Darren Aronofsky shot Pi illegally without permits, and that’s one of the best movies ever made. It’s one of those issues that could go either way and should probably be taken on a case-by-case basis.

That’s like the early days of the Internet. I think that’s the right attitude to have.

Never Hike Alone is a Friday the 13th fan film. It’s an independent production that I don’t think is making money itself, but promotes the Creator’s other films and merchandise. Also in the interviews I’ve seen most of the crew is making the film out of love and don’t care if it makes money, they can now say they’ve been involved in a Friday the 13th movie.
Some of the budget I know went to Thom Matthews, who was in Jason Lives. He had a cameo at the end and I think he’s coming back for sequels,if they still get made.
There’s a few other indie movie projects I’ve contributed money to,that unfortunately fell through but I don’t regret funding them.
Michal Copon of Power Rangers Time Force asked for money to fund a PR actor reunion movie, got money and then clamped up and doesn’t talk about it anymore. I can totally understand being upset about that kind of situation. Luckily,I didn’t contribute to that.

Or maybe they got sick of their own crusade. The derpibooru mods I saw are dealing with “unacceptable” content from a sense of obligation, and making themselves miserable. I don’t know if those are same ones, though.

I checked their upload statistics, and before the image event, they not only could not get 100 uploads per day, but sometimes they could not get 10 uploads in a day.

Someone could make an argument for floor/appledash, with making twibooru, and participating in the first marenheit stream chat if I remember right, but pretending to sock puppet isn’t too great.
