Seconded onto that, there are also some people who lack even the most basic sense of logic, empathy and manners who constantly clog up the forums with their inane stupid ramblings and I’d honestly just rather not have to read that brain-rot when I just want to come in and check what users are posting.
There’s no point having a debate with such people: they spend so much trying to tell you how they’re so right, they’re clearly not going open to a discourse about an opposing view, and frankly a dingy image booru full of perverts who use it to watch pony porn is not the proper time and place for such a discussion anyway.
It’s not just that some people have nothing better to do then be your reply guy whenever you say anything, no matter how innocuous…it’s also that I have better things to do with my day then be the reply guy of certain annoying users, and honestly I’d rather just have an option to hide all of their posts so I don’t have to feel my braincells dying in rapid succession reading their drivel every time I check on the latest forum discussion.
Especially since those users barely contribute to such discussions and even when they do it’s once again them trying to prove they’re smart and right about something, rather then adding anything substantive.

Reading this whole discussion, I am reminded of Violet Rose in The Rain.
The user who spents YEARS only posting in the politics thread, readily replying to anyone that said anything the slightest bit pro-Christian, pro-Capitalist, anti-trans, or anti-BLM.
They were so toxic even most other leftists didn’t like ‘em. But, the mods didn’t wanna ban Violet for years either, so everyone else just had to deal with it.

People do not just leave a bubble without announcing it believing people care. I would not be surprised that person got arrested for something. They were massively unhinged. I doubt it was an alt of someone else since a lot most likely agreed with them silently.

@Zaknel actually more like @Seiken really, but also @Zaknel as well a little bit…
So since you seem to think that user should have been banned, what’s wrong with the idea of users having the option to filter out his trash with a block button then?
A block button is a tool, like any tool it can be misused to ensconce oneself in an echo chamber and give you a distorted view of reality. Discretion will always be needed on behalf of a well adjusted, critically thinking adult to know when they need to expose themselves to opposing viewpoints, and when there are just deranged fucks who are a waste of their precious free time.
I suggest you-and all others who oppose the idea of a block button for users on this site-let me make that decision for myself.
PS: “Capitalist” is a Communist slur-word, no-one is pro-capitalist. I’m using the term “Free Marketeer” to describe people who favour individual choice and agency in economics until we come up with a proper codified term for what we are, but I refuse to identify myself by the pinko-version of the N word, and I strongly advise the same for you.
@Anonymous #A99E
Dude, have you seen the screenshots of the mod-chat in the DB discord server? They’re not so much “silently” agreeing with him, as agreeing with him “behind closed doors”. Shit some of the stuff the mods said in that chat was even more unhinged, open declarations of slashing the throats of conservatives being one of the more tame examples.

I am very interested to know what I said that made you think I was opposed to a block button on these sites. I thought I had been pretty open about the fact I want there to be one, and it would help me to know if I said anything to give the opposite impression.

Mostly misreading your most recent post on the last page.
I’ve been working flat out and I’m quite tired for the last few days, forgive a brainfart or two.
Also I still adhere to what I said in the Post Script.

In some sick, twisted way they just enjoy creating their own drama.
From that, they can play hero and look like the good guys.

@FeatherTrap
The mod-chat was for the mods. It would make sense that they would say things when they believe no one can see them. Just like a lot of them will spout racial slurs in private chats while calling everyone racists.

True though that may be, it is better than the alternative of either rampant anarchy or having the mods decide what is and is not okay.

No and i tell you why, we had that experiment called “block button” running all over the internet, it failed miserably, too many people are closing themselves in and its a big part of why we are at this miserable point in time where at least half the people using the internet cannot stand someone else having a different opinion.
I member the days of old, the forums of the past where shit was flung right and left, everyone had a good laugh and moved on… magical times it was. Of course there was some moderating, but it was fairly mild.
But frankly, between can’t say shit and anarchy reigns… i choose the later any time anywhere if i had to make a choice.

Despite being able to block anyone that you don’t like without so much as notice, you still typically have to be exposed to them first before you can do so. On the open internet in larger communities, you are typically exposed to new ideas constantly. The place that you are most ideologically isolated is in the real world with real people.
@Anonymous #A99E
No, I’m pretty sure rules were applied to him before. I think they likely banned him.

Not really. People on Twitter, for example, block others with different views using scripts and programs. Just follow or like a post by someone they don’t like and you’re automatically blocked, so they never have to see your activity or interact with you in any way.

@Zaknel
That’s incorrect, what Adan descripes is the automated process, someone creates lists of people and other people that trusts that list to be filled with people they do not want to interact with automatically block them. There is no interaction, just blind trust to pre-emptively block people.
Thats one problem, but even without it, the ease of being able to push other ideas away, making a habit out of it and the culture of that builds because of it. Some even proud of their 4-5 digit block lists. They wiff an opinion they don’t like they immediately block it, they do not engage with it in any meaningful way that would help them grow their own horizon, they just make it disappear.
