Pretty simple principle: if the furries are front and center, and the pony is hidden somewhere in the corner, it’s “obligatory pony” -> not pony related.  
If image has both but can be cropped to only have pony in it, then the moment someone does, the original becomes not pony related: e.g.

If enough staff need to take time to recognize the picture as a pony (“hurr buttstamp makes it pony related”, “hurr colored wig makes it pony related”, etc), then it’s obligatory pony/not pony related.
 
Basically, completely ignore the artist’s stated intention, because caring for that is the fucking highway to furfags slapping on obligatory pony to fuck up the site with non-pony artwork, and check the image itself only on whether it has sufficient amounts of pony.

Furry stuff: Personally it’s easier for us to slap the Furry tag on it and let users change their filters manually to view it. Specifically because it’s the type of content that was receiving a large amount of comment spam of “ew remove this”.
 
It’s not taking up any extra space now that it’s here, and it surely won’t affect anyone using their filters proper.
 
Personally I prefer just leaving the filter as “default” it’s harder to change than you think.

Again, we slap the furry tag on it and let it be filtered and if folks want to view it then they can view it by editing their private filter(s)

I see. I guess those are reasonable.  
It would be a pretty big change (and a lot of work for the mod team), so it’s not something we’ll change until something spurs a change in our policy (such as the inevitable furbooru-derpi merger, or a majority of our userbase coming together and deciding it’s an issue that needs to be addressed ASAP)

If we’re talking about images that contain traces of mlp AND furry.
 
It’s always been in pb’s policy to allow them. If you want a puritan booru experience, use your filters

Why is there no proper “Search for forum posts” button on this site? Also, Have you considered branching beyond twitter when it comes to social media stuff. Places like Instagram, Minds, Mastodon.social, and oddysee.

I believe with a little bit of trickery you can search someone’s post in a specific thread, but there is no current way to search a specific forum, it’s something that has been brought up before. For the second one, I brought up the ideas to the higher ups. It does seem like a good idea to branch out a little.

Reminder that “branching out” is what caused Derpi debacle in the first place. The only reason to have a Ponybooru account on any of those “social” places is place-holding, so that whoever pretends to be one can be shut down.

Branching out isn’t bad in and of itself. Oh, and branching out isn’t the sole cause of the Derpi debacle. The social media stuff does indeed have its downsides, I know that to be true. I’m thinking more along the lines of branching out mostly for announcements.
