I don’t think resaving the PNG version as a JPEG and killing the transparency counts as a novel alternate version. The upscale is really poor too, looking at the two of them, the blur from it is hard to miss.

Old upload’s smaller, but I checked the source, the old upload matches up to the largest size the artist released the comic in, it makes me think the new upload’s been scaled up. It does look blurrier to me.
