Contrary to popular opinion, Rebecca Black’s ‘Friday’ is not the worst song in the world.
Is it grating? Yes.
Is it unimaginative? Yes.
Does it condone hedonism and irresponsibility? Yes.
So does a lot of other pop music out there today.
It’s not the worst song in the world, it’s just painfully mediocre. I think it just gets called the worst song ever because when it’s popular to hate something, people will go out of their way to describe it in the most greatly exaggerated, unflattering terms possible.
If anything, the title of ‘Worst Song Ever’ probably belongs to the discography of a
lolcow of some sort. Those things can be painfully
bad by every possible metric.
Then again, lolcow songs usually fall into the ‘So bad it’s good’ category, so maybe Friday is the worst song because it’s bad but not bad enough to be funny?
