Well, Li’l Cheese’s gender confusion among the fans has led to a shit-ton of transgender headcanon and fan art, but as far I know, he’s just a girly looking boy, nothing about gender identity was mentioned. Unless I’ve missed someone from DHX spouting something on Twitter, I don’t think anyone official has said anything more.

I hope not, because that still doesn’t make sense. According to Jim, he’s not trans, he’s just girly looking, so far the only people that would appeal to is people who like traps. It’s demographic, sure, but not exactly high on most people’s priority to appeal to.

Actually, I still have no idea what the hell is the story with the staff and Li’l Cheese’s gender. I believe Jim Miller when he says that script had him as a colt, but what probably happened is the animation department screwed up when they altered Filly Pinkie’s model, didn’t change the muzzle and forgot to remove the eyelashes and in doing so made him into a filly. In light of that, I’m confused on Jim doubling down on the whole “no he’s a boy and we gave him a girl’s eyelashes because he’s super cute” excuse. What the hell was so damn crucial about not changing the foal’s gender exactly? It’s not like Pinkie addresses her child as a “he” or “she” and there’s no plot impact from the accidental gender change. What was so wrong with laughing off the accidental sex change on the animation department’s part and giving out Li’l Cheese’s original gender as a fun fact instead of stubbornly insisting she was still a he?
