The movie came out several years too late, after the enthusiasm around the show had largely dried up.
It also seemed to center around the same story that the season 4 finale did better. Which was the same story that the series finale also did, crappily, where someone tries to steal all the magic in Equestria and some magical macguffin is needed to save the day.

There is a limited number of times that you can run the plot of “supervillain (or plants) takes out the princesses to allow Twilight & Friends to hit the villain with friendship lasers”.

I don’t know why they always thought the show needed villains.
I’d prefer something more slife of Life,less Winx Club. Actually I’d like a more slice of life Winx Club.

I liked Chrysalis and Cozy. The writers apparently did too,but had no idea of what to do with them. I liked Discord when he was a villain but I also liked him being the lovable asshole.

They thought the show needed villains because every season’s opening and finale needs to be more dramatic than the rest of the season to be a proper TV show. What was wrong with Best Night Ever and closing a season with the Grand Galloping Gala? I think S7 had the idea to open with something other than a grandiose two-part episode (it very well could have been 6 or 8: I stopped watching new episodes right when they were released halfway through S6 and entirely stopped caring about new episodes the show as-written halfway through S8).

I’m hoping Pony Life doesn’t decide to suddenly have villains.

The Grand Galloping Gala was also built up before in some previous episodes of season one.
Season 7 opened with an episode where Twilight fantasises a little about sending Starlight away, but she doesn’t actually do it, and nothing actually happens in the whole episode.

Yes. But, I suppose it is kind of a fitting opening to season seven. Only time I rewatched through whole series, every episode in order; I enjoyed seasons one through six, season seven was mostly boring, and seasons eight and nine were mostly awful.
But at least it gave us this:

There was a much better movie that they chickened out of, I think they should of gone full don bluth and scared the crap out of children to make reviewers sit up and take notice.

I remember some of the ‘leaks’ that came years before, one in particular said that we would see the Princesses’ parents or something like that.

I’d still say Flutter Brutter is worse,though I’m pretty forgiving with alot of MLP. There’s just not much I dislike.
I mean,I see the issues others have with it,but I still like it.
There’s alot of times I see the same problems others did,but some affect them more than me,or me more than them.

Yes.

It’s certainly not a good episode, but Fame and Misfortune is very far from the worst.
@Dex Stewart
I think Flutter Brutter is a good episode. However it can hit too close to home, making it without doubt one of the least fun episodes.

I just hated Zephyr’s voice.and attitude.and manbun.and face. Id like to punch him and tell him to get off his lazy ass and get a job. He has no excuse,we literally have magic tattoos that tell us what to do. Go blow feathers around until you figure out how that will make you money. Douche.

Well,they got new to hate an episode. The only episode I really dislike. I hated his teal color too.
Literally the only good thing he’s got is this scene.

They make nearly all male ponies look ugly. Except Big Mac and surfer bro (Twily’s brother, what’s his name?) all the male ponies are extremely lanky and have square asses.

Fame and Missfortune was 100% pure salt from Big Jim, if you haven’t seen Larson talking about it: https://youtu.be/j4-0T96sHT8?t=43.
Larson tried his best to save it, he even re-wrote the whole thing with a much better episode, but Jim assumed direct control to write his hit peice but left Larsons name on it. Sure it took some well deserved shots at people that deserved it, but these people everybody knows are assholes, it’s going for low hanging fruit. The whole thing just comes off as bitter.
@Dex Stewart
Flutter Brutter had a good message but Zepher is such a boomer flanderization of young people, saying that young people are struggleing just because their lazy and don’t apply themselves, instead of the economic golden age comeing to an end and increasing competition from other countries reducing the amount of jobs. It just comes off as patronising and out of touch.

I love Fame & Misfortune simply for how upset it made the community. It may be objectively shit from a film critique perspective, but it was massively effective at generating results.
Flutter Brutter annoyed me because the ending had the implication that you should apply yourself at bull’s-shite entry-level jobs because you’re supposed to pretend that it develops work ethic or some other Calvinist hard work is its own reward road apples.
Increased competition from other countries reduces the availability of jobs. Automation reduces the amount of total jobs.
