TAG DISCUSSION

Same story, so far it’s only being used on that image and its alternate.

Sometime I wonder why everyone is so eager to give ship names to niche ships with almost no numbers behind them. I could have sworn Derpi used to have a policy of no implications until after the tag gained five or more legitimate uses. I’ve seen a few ship tags end up completely emptied out because only one artist shipped them who later DNP’d.

Misanthrope
Fair warning, this is going to be more of a vent then actual discussion, but I’m finding the current state of pony anon tags wildly distressing:

First, we have anonpony, described as “An Anon turned into an adult stallion”. Which should not to be confused with poneanon, “An Anon turned into a full-grown mare”. The very next line then very helpfully reminds you that it is “*not to be confused with oc:mare-anon * [sic: actually links to oc:anon-mare]”, a tag reserved for the grown up version of oc:anon filly. And then there’s the tag anoncolt v.s. oc:colt anon, oc:anon stallion, femanon pony, oc:anonpone v.s. anonpone …etc. seen with various amount of use.

It is at this point I am forced to conclude that any attempts at organizing the tags to conform to a single format, for the ease of tagging, will be a herculean effort. And any dream of getting a single standard adopted by all the boorus is nothing short of a fool’s errand. That ship has long sailed, and this is the sad reality we have to contend with.

The reason I brought this up is because I found out that Twibooru mistakenly aliased ‘anonpony’ into ‘oc:anonfilly’, and in the process of fix those images, I kept discovering more and more variations– I’m going to have a lie down now.

I went through a while back and tried to disentangle those very tags. The number of distinct anon-turned-pony characters is hard to lock down, particularly when there are also generic anonponies to grapple with. The whole set is nearly impossible to keep up with.

We were thinking of doing a sort of wiki page that lists them all, rather than having the same long description underneath each of those tags

Weirdo
Methinks the “simple” solution would be to just use oc:anon + ponified + any other relevant tags, and ignore the ensuing REEEs.

It would also be accurate, since – as far as I know, at any rate – that’s what all of the various pony-anons are.

You basically wrap some stuff in with a NOT (or !) somewhere.
Consider the following:
pinkie pie AND NOT my:upvotes

If this was in the complex spoiler part of a filter, it would spoiler any and all images tagged with pinkie pie, except for those that you have upvoted.
If you wanna go a little more… Complex:
(pinkie pie OR rainbow dash OR rarity OR twilight sparkle OR applejack OR fluttershy) AND NOT my:upvotes

By putting a whole bunch of OR terms in a set of parentheses, we can basically have it so that you only need to make on exception for lots of tags where you wanna have them be excepted by the same thing, like upvotes.

Basically, filter syntax is kind of like an “opposite” search; you’re putting in a search query for things that you don’t want to see. You can read up on the Search Syntax Page if you wanna know more about the syntax itself.

Hope this helps!
