Some white male feminist #artist hated it, claiming it to be racist, probably because it is very open about the fact that everyone can be racist, not just white people. Also because maleness is evil, or something.
On the other hand, the Karen people, who Rambo rescues in the movie, and who are for real being genocided by the Burmese government, love the movie. They distribute bootleg copies around the country and say it boosts morale in their guerilla war. David Morrell, who created Rambo, also liked the movie.
Here’s a documentary on the Karen people. It contains scenes of Rambo in the beginning, but more than half is real footage from aid workers.
