Derpibooru's down for maintenance

It sucks! But now we have here! Wanna talk about… anything?

Am I the only one who felt just the tiniest bit of suspicion when they saw the announcement? With so much bullshit over the last month, I couldn’t help but think ’now is this maintenance or ‘maintenance’?” when I first saw the announcement.
 
Also I want all of those.

It was a legitimate hardware maintenance on the part of our server provider, followed by our Elasticsearch index going corrupt due to the provider unplugging our server instead of powering it off via the chassis button, which forced us to recreate the entire index for millions of images, comments and posts, which took over 4 hours to complete due to how massive derpibooru’s database really is.

I felt like explaining the true reasoning behind derpibooru downtime, so I did. You felt like insulting me, so you did. The world is fair :D

Slightly regret now, but that edit felt like snark for snark’s sake after already making the millions point.  
It was unnecessary redundancy.

Well, I’d better hope they didn’t use this maintenance to make the Derpibooru import tools unusable.

Ah I’m sorry my edit felt that way. I merely meant it in a way that because of that, the indexing has been taking a very long time, and forced me to go to bed 3 hours past when I normally would have.

Even if it’s the “maintenance” you guys are suspecting about, what difference does it make from the “maintenance”. Do you expect Derpi to destroy your nee booru? Do you expect them to idk make up some strategy to bring back ppl to derpi? I really don’t see why you’re suspecting something bad from the word “maintenance” like your ponybooru doesn’t need any maintenance as well.

I can vouch that reindexing of the Elastisearch is something that would wipe Derpibooru out for hours.
 
Also, since I, and several others, already have complete, or near so, backups of both the images and metadata of Derpibooru, their site being online isn’t needed to facilitate large scale imports of whatever chunks of it are needed. So any such conspiracies already fail a sniff test

I think its a case of derpi hitting the “discouragement ban everyone” switch. They were losing the argument.

I suddenly started getting captchas a few hours ago while I was in the middle of browsing. The site didn’t seem to have any trouble loading prior to then. Not sure what’s going on. Maybe they caught a DDoS attempt that started while I was reading a thread or something.

Why would we have suspicion they would be suffering a legitimate DDOS?

I think I’ll use this thread as a place to question odd choices and weird things about DB.  
Lately,they’ve been uploading tons of “Neural network” pics. They prominently feature obvious ponies,but they insist no one add the proper name tags. I don’t get it. The pics may be randomly generated or whatever,but aren’t they afraid these pics will get buried unless their properly tagged?  
I kinda understand the feeling of not wanting specific tags on pics,I had quite a problem of keeping Oc: Aryanne tags off my original Fargate pics that didn’t use any premade art or vectors.

Someone is posting pics that clearly are supposed to look like actual MLP ponies,but the mods insist no one add name tags.

It’s a recent thing. Someone took a bunch of art and ran them through an AI to generate ponies and put them on a site called thisponydoesnotexist.
