An Anthro piece i commissioned that depicts the Wonderbolts in a similar way to how i have in my stories on fimfiction. (The stories are not anthro). In my alternate universe (that acknowledges events up through season 3) the Wonderbolts main function is military force of elite, seasoned warriors who do airshows during times of peace as a means for funding. Each of the Wonderbolts was given an original unique personality that i’ve had a lot of fun working with. (Wall of text incoming)
(it should be noted that i started writing this series before season three began, so Spitfire, Soarin, and Fleetfoot are not depicted as they are in the show)
Spitfire: Hardened Captain of the Wonderbolts and the youngest to ever be given the rank (At age 25) She’s stern and dutiful, but has a problem with never turning it off. She suffers from a bit of loneliness, but does her best to never show it (to all besides Soarin and Fleetfoot) because she believes it is unfit for the captain to show weakness.
Fleetfoot: Heavy contrast to Spitfire. She’s fun, silly, giggly, flirty, and loves playing friendly pranks. Always quick to make something sound sexual, but understands when it’s time to get serious. She flirts endlessly with the stallions in the compound, but is actually afraid of commitment, unsure what she wants from a significant other. Her behavior sometimes gives her the label of a slut, which bothers her greatly because she just really enjoys being affectionate with other ponies (mare and stallion alike).
Soarin: Middle of the road compared to Spitfire and Fleetfoot. Serious when he needs to be, goofy everywhere else. Knows how to handle fleetfoot and as Spitfire’s foalhood friend, understands her better than most, earning her trust. He tends to be overprotective, sometimes trying to protect others when it really isnt needed. Heavy sense of pride, sometimes doesn’t look before he leaps.
Wave Chill: Yes Pony. Very stiff and dutiful, a soldier type. Refers to everypony ranking above him as Sir or Ma’am, even if he’s good friends with them. This behavior is actually a front to conceal the fact that he’s very awkward socially and doesn’t quite know how to handle many casual situations, but if you want something done and done right, he’s your stallion.
Blaze: Spitfire’s half sister. Very… very… VERY overconfident, loud, rambunctious, and vulgar. Can’t go two sentences without swearing excessively. Talks the talk, but often falls short of walking the walk. Often picks fights with Fleetfoot only to get her plot handed to her pretty easily. Will never miss a chance to get on Silver Lining’s nerves. Likes to mess with recruits who can’t tell she’s not Spitfire at first glance.
High Winds: Narcoleptic. If she’s not completely engaged in something, she WILL fall asleep, sometimes while standing upright or as she’s doing something. Always looks drowsy and speaks in a monotone. HILARIOUSLY blunt, refusing not to say things how they are and doing so while yawning several times in the process. Best friends with Blaze, making them an odd pair the way one is hyperactive and loud while the other is like a sloth and monotonous.
Silver Lining: The oldest of the current Wonderbolts at age 42. Rough, gruff, and quick with a “kids these days” often talks of how great things “used to be” but in reality he wouldn’t give up what he has for anything. He is in charge of training the recruits and does so in a very boot camp manner. His old age has made him clever, and lots of the other Wonderbolts try to listen in and write down all the things he says to the recruits. “Pure Gold” As Lightning Streak calls it. Silver often seems grumpy and annoyed and like he’d rather be somewhere else, but the rest can tell he really cares and he’s looked up to like a father figure.
Misty Fly: The absolute shining star of my Wonderbolt cast. She is deaf. Yes, deaf. However despite the disability she is well known as a coordinator of impromptu shows. She directs Wonderbolts using hoof and wing signals as she flies along with them. She is older than most of them at age 37, but is far and away one of the most cherished members by the rest of them (not to mention she is also praised for her strength and hardened combat skills). While there are few that know her sign language well, many try to communicate with her, simply because of how awe inspired they are by her success despite her disability. The Wonderbolts are her family, but she is very envious of others since she can’t hear nor speak. This however is alleviated by…
Fire Streak: Very polite, very proper, courteous, gentlemanly etc. The most straight laced a pony can get. Dislikes crude or unruly behavior and finds lack of manners to be despicable. Despite his behavior, however, he is way too prudish for his own good when discussing his own feelings, often denying what he wants in order to remain being seen as the perfect gentleman. He is the only one in among the Wonderbolts who has FULLY mastered Misty Fly’s sign language, and as a result, the two are very close. Fire takes it upon himself to help Misty every single day to make her life easier, acting as her voice to make simple tasks such as ordering food or giving explanations much easier and hassle free. Misty Fly ADORES Fire Streak for the amount of effort he puts into helping her, and undoubtedly likes him as more than a friend (and likes to tease him)… but he’s very shy on the subject.
Lightning Streak: Fire Streak’s twin brother… and the two couldn’t be any more different. While Fire is straight laced, proper, and well mannered… Lightning Streak is laid back, super casual, and a lacks proper etiquette (Which is putting it lightly) he exhibits every single trait of a college frat colt. Referring to others as ‘bro’ or ‘babe/girl’. Leads most of his sentences with ‘dude…’ and has an arsenal of terrible pick up lines that have a 110% failure rate. Despite always being punched or kicked in the crotch by mares for his attempts at flirting he see’s every attempt as a success “She totally wants me…” Interaction between the Streak twins is regular entertainment for the rest, Fire often berating him to no avail as Lightning simply belches in his face in response.
Surprise: I don’t know if i can really claim originality with her… i just made her Pinkie Pie with wings :/
tl:dr I created original personalities for every Wonderbolt and it’s been fun.
These Characters are part of my Soarindash themed trilogy (There’s lots more than just Soarindash though, especially in the third. The first two are fairly old, i apologize if they’re not quite error free.) You can find the stories on my fimfiction page here: Calm Wind’s page
I will be uploading each picture separately as well.
