HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! tooot
I couldn’t think of any clever dialogue but here is my dear magical nerds.
I headcanon that these two had fancied each other for quite some time before eventually ending up together.
Twilight didn’t realise at first that she actually wanted to be more than friends with the other mare.
After her break up with Sunburst Twilight wasn’t feeling too hot. Sure it was a unanimous decision to end the relationship, but breakups still hurt. Twilight ended up having a short fling with Prince Rutherford during a ball in the crystal empire. They kept meeting while he and his guards stayed in Equestria mainly just having a bit of fun together and nothing really serious. (Rutherford can be quite the charmer once you get to know him) This ultimately ended up with the birth of Love Letter.
Although she loved her dear little miracle hybrid Twilight couldn’t help but feel lonely being a single parent (Rutherford had long since returned to Yakyakistan and neither of them could leave their positions) and so she found herself back at Sunburst’s house.
The two of them had stayed friends and so Sunburst helped her realise that she might have some stronger feelings towards Starlight, considering how she kept getting jealous whenever Starlight was hanging out with other ponies and how Twilight always kept trying to get Starlight’s attention and inviting her over just to be near her. Once Twilight realised what she was actually doing she became a lot more awkward around Starlight.
This in turn caught Starlight’s attention and she also went to her dear friend Sunburst in order to talk about Twilight’s sudden change in behaviour. He might have slipped that Twilight liked her and so Starlight was thrilled to travel straight to the castle and ask the princess out. The rest is history.
The two of them are very close. Twilight is the more clingy and cuddly out of the two and Starlight is more likely to try and play it cool sort to speak whilst trying to act gentlemanly around her princess.
Starlight became like a second mom to Marigold and Love Letter and they both love her, however Inkwell is not quite as thrilled to have another mother. He hasn’t liked any of Twilight’s previous partners.
Although Starlight tries to connect with him he is simply not having it and just completely ignores her instead.
She is the one who is the most observant of Inkwell’s strange behaviour and sees the warning signs that he might be planning something really bad, Twilight doesn’t want to see this though so the subject of Inkwell has sort of become a touchy subject in the household which they try to avoid.
