Description

I want to start doing a family tree for my next gen which means designing all the parents, so I figured I would start with Chrysalis :>

This isn’t how Chrysalis looked when she came to Celestia originally she looked like she did in the show, after the majority of her colonies defected and transformed it sent Chrysalis and the remaining changelings on the run to recover from the battle. Equestria was on the war path to eradicate what was left of Chrysalis’ colony. The hunts were unforgiving and her colony was already starving, attacking the Crystal Empire had been a desperate move to assimilate her changelings into society and it had failed in the worst way. Now what remained was being killed off and Chrysalis knew she had been backed into a corner. There had to be a way to save themselves; she was to angry, spiteful, and rejected to change the way Thorax did for most of the changelings but she would swallow her pride to save her colony.

Chrysalis snuck her way into Canterlot’s castle and caught Celestia when she was alone and by surprise. The changeling queen knew she didn’t have long and she certainly wouldn’t make it through a battle with the stronger alicorn so she bowed to the sun queen, which only served to throw Celestia off further. Chrysalis pleaded for a way to save her colony but even still she refused to submit completely and proposed a merger. The remaining changelings would come into the fold of Equestria’s society and the draining of ponies would stop and her changelings could act as shadows for the crown, able to gather information and observe situations unnoticed. In return Celestia would have citizens that would willing allow her changelings to safely feed off them and with Chrysalis as a partner they would never rebel or go against her wishes.

Celestia considered her deal it would be a way to end the bloodshed and violence that beings at odds had caused, and with Chrysalis so close she could monitor the changeling who she still didn’t trust very much, gain a resource for the crown, and she could feel the sincerity of Chrysalis’ plea. Chrysalis was honest and showing that she actually cared for those under her rule. Equestria could still be extremely xenophobic to things that looked different from the common pony, a fear she carried in her earlier years of ruling. The work of Twilight and her friends in rehabilitating villains and befriending the misunderstood had really opened her eyes to other possibilities. It was partially her and Luna’s fault that a good many species had been forced into hiding out of fear of being hunted that likely got them to this position in the first place so she offered to draw a contract.

Chrysalis and Celestia spent the rest of the night defining the terms of a political marriage contract, something detailed and extensive so that Chrysalis wouldn’t be able to manipulate things into a takeover (though she didn’t really have the intention to, she knew she would lose) or allow any harm to come to Equestria or its people by her intention, influence, or negligence and in return Celestia promised fair treatment of the changelings and to implement a system so the changelings wouldn’t ever starve again and would be able to come into the light of society the way Thorax had done. Both parties talked out every avenue they could thing of for a loveless marriage and when the sun’s morning light brightened the room, they had come to an agreement.

Celestia allowed Chrysalis to bring word to her changelings as an extension and test of trust and intention, whether Chrysalis would lead her colony her in peace or to attack and that would end this contract before it even began and Chrysalis would have to trust Celestia to keep her word that no changeling would be harmed. As Celestia spread the word throughout Canterlot, the city teemed with nervous energy and anticipation of an attack, but they wouldn’t disobey a direct order from one of the Queens. Luna was surprisingly agreeable to the exchange, as her own husband was a misunderstood, misguided villain once. She trusted her sister and could also see the benefit of the exchange, plus Luna knew that Chrysalis would remain in check with two powerful alicorns and an umbrum unicorn to keep an eye on her.

The announcement and further plans went well and with very little hiccups Chrysalis and her changelings were placed into society. Celestia allowed only herself to be Chrysalis’ emotion source and while their marriage slowly changed from tense and stressed to mostly amicable neither party expected Chrysalis to become pregnant from a feeding session while Chrysalis happened to be fertile. In the resulting pregnancy the two began to really get close and Chrysalis’ transformation happened and with the birth of their first daughter, real love had welled up between them.

Now Chrysalis, and the remaining changelings that refused the initial reformation are different from Thorax and their colonies. The reformed changelings are now considered Seelie Changelings and Chrysalis and the remaining changelings are Unseelie Changelings. (I’m borrowing Keeper-Enforcer’s way of classifying changelings here because I like the idea, but it’s gonna be slightly different).

Unseelie Changelings still need to feed off other creatures to keep up their strength but they are no longer able to be crazed by hunger. Their coats remain either dark and desaturated and their hair is opaque (and more mane like) as opposed to Seelie changelings transparent and tails bug like. They no longer have holes from hunger and their wings tend to be more glass without the webbing Seelie changelings have, also they always have their wings out while Seelie Changelings can tuck them into their shelled backs.

%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%~How did this get so long! Oh well this is how Chrysalis comes into the fold and explains the split between the Changeling colonies that exist, I might update this as I think of more differences between the two sets of Changelings but enjoy for now :3
