Description

As with my Applejack coaster, I wanted to make a smaller size than the 30x30 squares because they take so long to do. But I also wanted to try using different stitches, because the regular tent and cross-stitches become a little boring and I worry people won’t find them interesting enough if I stick to those. So I tried a new stitch with the smaller Rarity, using what is called a brick stitch.

I’m not quite sure if I’m happy with the results yet. I bought white plastic canvas, rather than transparent, so the effect does look much better than it would on transparent canvas. It also feels really cool to touch, it has a nice texture. But it was a real pain to do when working around the diamonds. The back looks atrocious. I definitely need to practice more with the brick stitch.

I also tried a braided stitch for the border. Rarity’s mane is only surpassed by the princesses’, so I wanted to try something different for her. But the braid is only actually visible from the sides, so I’m a little disappointed in it. It’s definitely best used to join pieces of canvas, rather than used just as a border.
