He is at the age where he is starting to go to the birthday parties of other children, and other boys have themes like Spider-Man or Transformers. He knows what they are from other kids his age, but the truth is, I dont let him watch those shows. I think they are too violent for him. He is a VERY sensitive boy. If characters in a cartoon are scared, he will be scared, if they are happy, he will be happy.
My two boys, now four and two, have never been told they couldnt have something because it was a girls” thing. At about eighteen months my youngest went through a Minnie Mouse phase. All he wanted was Minnie Mouse toys, cartoons, and pajamas. All Minnie Mouse stuff is pink, so he was my little boy in pink. Now his world revolves around Lightning McQueen. Well see what it is six months from now.
If its age appropriate, my boys will get to experience it if they want. There are no boy toys and girl toys, or boy shows and girl shows. I can even say, there are no boy clothes or girl clothes. In our house if you like if you should enjoy it.
When my son was told by another boy at his party that My Little Pony was a girl thing he handled it perfectly. He said, Anyone can like ponies.”
I realized then that I was doing it right, and all that mattered was that my baby was happy with his Thomas in one hand and Rainbow Dash in the other.
