Though Starlight technically wasn’t part of the Royal Family, Twilight had treated her like a sister, and invited her to come along.
Shining Armor was with Twilight, watching Flurry Heart, who was older at the time, around 8-10 years old now, and helping her and Twilight pack.
Twilight Velvet and Night Light, The two’s parents, were to be coming soon, and Cadence was waiting with Violet in the corridor.
Violet sat silently, waiting for her family. Cadence saw sorrow in her niece’s eyes. She never saw Violet like this, and she got a little scared.
After what felt like hours of silence, Cadence decided to speak up.
“Violet, dear, is there something wrong?”
She was silent still. The only response she gave was when she looked up at her, the color of her eyes looked darker then usual.
“Violet… What happened?”
“…” She had opened her mouth to speak, but The doors of the castle opening had cut her off.
“TWILIGHT!!! SHINING!!! Where are my most wonderful children in all of Equestria!?”
Night Light burst through the castle halls, looking for his son’s room, where he assumed they would be.
Twilight Velvet put a hoof on her forehead and sighed.
“Hunny! Calm down! It’s not like we don’t see them from time to time.”
Velvet walked up to Cadence and Violet, clearly embarrassed by her over-reacting husband’s current event.
“I’m so sorry, dear. Usually he’s not like this when we visit, but I guess the family vacation got to his head, haha.”
“It’s alright, Mom. I don’t mind at all.” Cadence was clearly embarrassed too, but not as much as Velvet, who’s grey face had a light brush of pink now showing through.
The elder mare laughed it off, hugged Violet lightly - much to the filly’s surprise - and went to find her husband.
Violet had never met her grandparents before, so she was surprised that one of them had shown her affection. Her mother must have told them about her.
Cadence had started to follow Velvet while Violet was in thought, and snapping out of her trance, she had quickly caught up to the two mares.
Twilight, Shining, and Flurry had finished up packing everypony’s bags. Starlight was not around, so Violet assumed she teleported home to pack and would meet them back here.
“Everypony ready for Vacation Time?” Shining exclaimed. “You’re sure right we are, son!” Night Light shouted back.
Violet had faked a smile of excitement, but she was still upset. Back in the Dragonlands… Who was that dragon who knew her name? And why did she feel a sense of family around him?
Why had her own mother kept a secret about him from her? Doesn’t she have the right to know?
She was broken out of her trance again when a slight flash a blue light filled the room, and Starlight stood in the center of it. Guess she did go home to pack.
“I’m back! All packed and ready to go! Hehe…” She laughed sheepishly.
“Great! Were all here! Now we can head out to the train and head to the Falls!” Twilight explained.
Violet remembered her mother talking about her last family vacation to the Falls, where her family was tricked onto the boat by someone named Iron Will. Such a jerk, she thought to herself.
She hoped it wouldn’t be happening again.
…
Some time had passed, and everyone was boarding the cruise ship to head to the Falls. So far, the Iron Will was nowhere to be seen. They took that as a good sign.
They went inside the bottom of the ship and set their stuff in their room. Twilight had planned the vacation out for everyone to be able to have a good time. She stuck the Planner on the room’s bare wall.
Everyone had started to head out, but Violet had stuck behind.
“Violet, you coming? Me and Flurry are excited to go!” Cadence and Flurry were waiting by the door for her. They noticed she was still upset. Twilight hadn’t told them about the incident.
But everything had clicked in her head when Violet asked the next question:
“Auntie Cadence?”
“Yes, dear?”
“Did… Did you ever know my papa?”
