Yet I did wake feeling well rested, exactly what I needed after being so tired. So I decided I should make something nice for her, since I believed it was that talk with her that helped me sleep that night.
When I woke up, there was a cloud in the sky, one that covered parts of the sun’s light, yet it still let light to shine through. It had a really nice crepuscular rays effect.
Looking outside and seeing the leaves turn to yellow, I was happy that I finally had an autumn that came on time this year. I was then thinking of those rare few times when I would go to my grandmother’s house in the countryside during autumn. It was in a high hill area with lots of forests surrounding it. All those trees in different colors were quite a sight.
This made me remember some much better times when I was a kid, when I used to go there.
I wanted to make a something to try and capture a bit a part of that moment but also make it for Twi and center it around her. So I dug up some pics, and started to make this background, which features a part of an interior from a traditional Romanian peasant house, from the Argeş area, where my grandmother lived.
So I started with the bed, then the table, then that wall pattern(that I’m quite proud of), and finishing up with the pillows and that fabric above the bed.
Another thing I wanted to capture was something I really enjoyed as a kid, namely autumn fruits. Grapes, walnuts, apples and quinces were and still are my favorite part of autumn. That little decorative gourd is also something people like to place in the house when autumn begins.
About the book:
“Baltagul” (en: “The Hatchet”) written by Romanian author Mihail Sadoveanu is a crime novel about the widow of a shepherd, who’s husband was murdered by two other shepherds. The novel presents the mythical journey she embarks upon, in order to find her dead husband, and those responsible for his death. This is a creative adaptation of many themes in Romanian folklore, and a book I liked reading back in school.
Also this book has probably one of the best written female lead characters in Romanian literature.
So, as you can see, there was a lot of thoughts put into this picture.
