Description

from artist: “My daughter wanted to be Pinkie Pie in her Grand Galloping Gala dress for Halloween this year and this was the product. She isn’t much for posing, so I’ll just have to post what I get.

She left the wig on for about 10 minutes (which wasn’t quite the right color). After that she refused to put it back on and we went with pink hair spray.

The dress itself is mostly made of leftover pieces I had in my fabric stash, including the white and blue spandex that I pieced together for the striped fabric. There are about 50 little candy appliques on the skirt and the ears are made of Crayola Model Magic. She choose not to wear those again for the second wearing of the costume.

Construction Update: Small clarification, those appliques are all handmade since I couldn’t find anything I liked at a price I could afford. Since my daughter was only 4 in this picture and about to hit a growth spurt I built it to accommodate. The base dress is made of pieced spandex (blue and white) and the pink stretch velvet, with a bit of tulle and lining in it so it wouldn’t be itchy. The ruffled tiers are a separate skirt made of white cotton, stretch velvet and pink satin. For the hat, I cut up one of those plastic sticker tubs, used spray adhesive to add a bit of batting to the top and then simply hot glued the fabric to it. All bows are pinned so that I can remove them for machine washing.”
