“I wanted us to do something together, you know like a dinner, but I wasn’t really sure what to suggest. I didn’t really know where we were standing.”
“Really? I always thought you’d be a bit of a smooth talker, if anything.”
“Sure! Sure. But still. There was that parallel universe me she had a crush on, but kinda got over I guess - hard not to, he sounded like a bit of a…”
“Twit?”
“I was gonna go a bit further, but - anyway, I guess she saw right through me. Comes with being princess of friendship, I suppose.”
“What did she do?”
“She just smiled, and said she just wanted to hang with me, see what’s what. Unwind for an afternoon.”
“Miss Sparkle unwinding? I bet that didn’t last for long.”
“You guessed it. We ended up at her castle, going through some random junk ponies sent her from all across the kingdom. Stuff from the other princesses, mostly. Anyway, we found this weird mirror…”
“Oh boy. Let me guess: not really a mirror. Hm… did it show you true desires of your heart? Or maybe a twisted version of yourself you’re not really proud of? No wait, wait - it a portal to an alternate universe.”
“Yep. It wasn’t the same one she already went through, but you know Twilight - she loves to tinker. At first, I was against the whole thing, of course.”
“Why?”
“Well, it’s dangerous! Okay, and I also wasn’t really keen on meeting my high school self. Ugh. But of course, Twilight found out pretty quickly that universe wasn’t where this mirror lead.”
“Which one then?”
“I don’t know. It’s not like they’re named, right?”
“Or you just don’t know the designations.”
“What was that?”
“Oh, nothing. Continue, please.”
“Right, so, Twilight wanted to go in, right? Because of course she did. Didn’t even cross her mind to call her friends, or tell anypony. Well… to be honest, it didn’t cross my mind either - I was worried she just couldn’t wait, and she’d go in on her own if I went to get somepony. She had that glimmer in her eye.”
“So you both went in?”
“Yeah, we both did. And boy, was that not an Equestria you’d want to find yourself in. Probably not even Equestria at all. There were ponies, but… not friendly. First, we had to dig a way from a sealed box in a warehouse, then Twilight ran off to investigate, one thing led to another, and before we know it, we were wrapped in some sort of evil master plan, and had a bunch of creepy pyromancers breathing down our necks! A lot happened pretty fast, so it’s kind of a blur… but we ended up fleeing for our lives, both of us injured, just a mad flight back to the portal.”
“You obviously made it.”
“Barely. Twilight just collapsed and fell through, and the fireball that was meant for her hit set the frame on fire instead. I managed to jump through just before the portal collapsed. Not a pleasant ride.”
“I can imagine. What did Twilight have to say?”
“When I came to, she was fixing me up. She looked very worried, and I think she’d be apologizing even now if I hadn’t stopped her. It really was something. But… I dunno. I like a good adventure, you know? Just maybe next time somewhere just a tiny bit safer.”
