If it’s not Thursday within your time zones, please be patient.
This game is one of my favorite fighting games of all time. Released on the PC MS-DOS format in the mid-90’s, developed by Diversions Entertainment, and published by Epic MegaGames (later as Epic Games who will later develop the Gears of War games for the Microsoft XBOX consoles), it has some of the milestones for a fighter at the time:
a. Pilot selection (determines colour palette and stats levels) before the robot selection
b. 4 Tournament modes of increasing difficulty
c. Create-a-Character mode where you can customize and upgrade the stats of your pilot and your giant robot of choice for the tournament modes
d. Rehit mode for a 2D fighter (optional; basically the juggle system of 3D fighters)
e. Adjustable game speed settings
f. All the stages (except one) with different hazards during gameplay
And almost everything still holds up to this day, including the music.
When I was in Grade School, I had played only the incomplete (shareware) version of the game, with just 3 playable robots, 1 Tournament mode, but all the pilots unlocked.
Years later, I downloaded the freeware full version, running on my DOSBox. Naturally, MS-DOS / Command Prompt of later OS’s gets problematic overtime. Played it, even during school hours in my College.
I mained the robots Flail because of its unique fighting style and Shredder because of its good combo connection, and chose the pilot Jean-Paul (Sunset Shimmer’s colours) because his stats are probably the most balanced.
Apologies if the screencap available had to be greatly resized to fit the screen. Assume that Fluttershy is Player 2 and Princess Luna is Player 1.
Let us not speak of the black sheep of a sequel. Capiche?
