so there i was, reading about u-boats and then i wanted to draw mermaid ponies and then the gears in my head started turning and i asked myself…
“Maremaid + U-boat + some free time= U-pony!”
these underwater creatures dwell in all types of water, from coastal shallows to far out at sea. they are carnivores and prey on dolphins, sharks, squids, and sea turtles. they use their razor sharp teeth and net cutters on the nose to take down smaller prey. U-ponies hunt in “wolf packs” to take down larger prey with close range torpedo strikes. they have no eyes, but have very sensitive sonar and can detect even the slightest changes in temperature, movement, and even heart rate.
the U-ponies were first developed to fight in wars nearly a hundred years ago, however, several U-ponies escaped into the ocean and after a brief extermination campaign, all attempts to wipe them out were halted. they have gone from around 110 to almost 2,000,000 world wide.
they usually leave surface ships alone. however, U-ponies tend to be mischievous around ships and are known to cause errors for navigation and light damage to the hulls of big ships. it’s said if you are escorted by U-ponies, you will reach home in good health.
U-ponies lay up to 60 shelless eggs into a suitable host to incubate for six weeks while the shells develop and harden at witch point the host will lay them. shortly afterwords (around two to three days), the eggs hatch.
oceanic U-ponies attack Maremaid settlements and cause them to scatter. then, U-ponies corral as many females as they can find to serve as hosts. once grouped, U-ponies dive through the small crowd to snatch a maremaid and impregnate them. once this is done, U-ponies take the new hosts to their dens and keep them fed with what they catch. once the eggs are birthed and hatched, the hosts are then expected to feed them milk.
however, it’s not all horrible for “den mothers” U-ponies take very good care of them, keeping them well nourished and carefully guarded, even sharks know not to attack U-pony dens. also, U-pony foals the U-pony foals are sonar deft and are very quiet and gentle, often snuggling up to their den mothers and falling asleep to the sound of her heart beat. after three days, their sonar comes on, and after three weeks, they are able to fend for themselves. at this point, den mothers have a time gap of two hours to leave the den and swim back home. otherwise, U-ponies will take that as “i’m staying, and ready to host” and impregnate them all over again. some maremaids have hosted many times, while others never leave the U-ponies.
and there you have it, another new tool i can use for both safe and mature RPs~
