“Isn’t it sooo romantic that we’re, like… destined to get married when we’re older? I can totally start planning the wedding, like, right now and it would be perfect by the time we’re 18!”

“Mhmm! I’m just glad we’re getting married. Most ponies have to get married to someone they, um…don’t like very much…”

“Oh my gosh, I totally didn’t even think of that. That’s so scary! But you’re, like, not scary at all.”

“R-Really? You think so…? Other ponies say it’s not very cool that I’m so…soft.”

“It’s totally cool! I think you’re, like, super awesome and sweet and stuff.”

“Wow… that’s so nice of you. I think that you’re–”

“Do you, like, think these Felicia daisies would be totally adorable accents to our after party? Oooooh, or maybe we should go with bluebells? Should we book the Las Pegasus resort or have, like, a zeppelin situation? If I invite all my friends and my parents’ friends and the important foreign ponies and the princesses and stuff we’re gonna need liiiike five of them…”

“Heh… Whatever you want is fine, Lily. We have a really long time together to figure it out anyways.”

In this picture, we have Double Diamond and Lily Lace as kids on their first outing after hearing the news that they’re to-be-wed in about ten years time.

Jet Set and Upper Crust have always been persistent, opportunistic professional kiss-asses. When Fancy Pants and Fleur de Lis had their nice baby boy, they were quite jealous of how he was growing to be a commendable young man, although lacking the sharp edge needed to survive in Canterlot. Which is unfortunate, because they had a so-so girl of their own, who was a complete circle in terms of dullness, so she could never be eligible for much of anything in this life. Time for another kid, maybe?

Even if they not-so-subtly squeezed Lily Lace into Double Diamond’s life by having them go to the same school and paying for elite playdates, Lily was surely too inept at anything to leave a positive impression on Fancy Pants and Fleur.

They tried their damnedest to have Lily become some picture perfect filly who’s been trained from birth to be the perfect multi-hat trophy housewife, but all the elite babysitters and teachers they hired to do it were unsuccessful. Not to mention they know Fancy Pants has turned down many marriage requests for Double Diamond before, perhaps in a show of one of his contrarian acts against Canterlot tradition.

So, like many other hopeful sycophants, they get in line to interview for the arranged marriage with expectations of getting rejected. But they all somehow nail the interview and they do NOT complain.

The horrors of arranged marriage aside, Fancy Pants and Fleur do see a bright new opportunity here. Lily Lace is open minded and kind just like their boy, and not interested in the pursuit of fame, money, or power despite her parents’ best efforts. If she and Double Diamond work together, they could definitely set a new, better, more accepting precedent for Canterlot, and encourage everyone to break down the barriers everyone holds up around each other with kindness and whimsy.

Most marriages in Canterlot are ultimately a ploy for money and merging businesses, so there’s often a lot of distress and infidelity behind the scenes. Meanwhile Fancy Pants is an avid believer that your partner should be your best friend.

And best friends Double Diamond and Lily Lace do become! Double Diamond is happy to have somepony on the same wavelength as him. All this stuff he has to learn about stocks and interpersonal relations and business is exhausting… not to mention he can’t tell when other ponies are being nice to him because they actually like him, or just because he’s the mayor’s son or something. But Lily? He can trust Lily more than anypony else.

Which is unfortunate, because while Jet Set and Upper Crust underestimate Lily Lace, Fancy Pants and Fleur de Lis are totally overestimating her. It’s not easy being a pawn in the elite game!

is it just me or is the description edit fucked? it’s too wide and the letters end up trailing off and being unseen LMFAO why can’t deviantart do LITEARLLY anything right. its as easy as… i dont know… testing it before releasing it to the public… but maybe thats too crazy an idea
