Here’s a description to give more details on the backstory behind the illustration.

An Empire’s Edge

When the great storm came the Crystal Empire didn’t have a generator, they didn’t have much Steamtech or coal. Instead they’d depended upon Tesla-tech with the Crystal Heart as the source of the city’s power. But then the Windigo’s came, and brought with them the thousands of lost souls who’d perished within the north generations prior. Cadence went out to meet them and buy her husband time to build a shield, she succeeded but it costed her life and now her twelve year old daughter, along with the rest of the empire, grieves for her mother.

Thousands flocked seeking shelter from the frost, leading the city deeper and deeper into an energy crisis that now only drains the heart more and more. Even with Flurry supplementing it with her own magic the Heart’s power threatens to fade entirely. All the while the forces of the frost continue to hinder any attempt by the Crystal Guard to seek help from outside, fearful of joining the ghostly legions that surround them.

Indeed, this may be the end of an Empire…
