suggested some lychee stuff on my status update, and it reminded me that ive been meaning to look at him and a few things a little bit more. definitely pulled me out of my rut, so thank you!

1) “heh, you’re pretty good at this! Some day you might almost be good enough to beat me”

“r-really?”

“totally! but only almost. not everyone can be as good as me, so dont set your hopes too high”

2) rarity pleads with sweetie to pay more attention to her son. she’s soft in how she approaches it, and sweetie is mostly confused - while she appreciates her sisters concern, she is sure that lychee is doing just fine and that she’s fully listening to his needs. of course, rarity’s not really convinced of this, but sweetie is insistent all is fine.

3) rainbow’s methods were a lot more forward. i imagine this takes place late one night - rainbow was taking care of lychee for the day while sweetie was busy, while scootaloo was supposed to come and pick him up that evening. she didnt show up until late at night, claiming she’s not THAT late - but she quickly receives an earful from rainbow, about how she should start being a real mother to her son, and she shouldnt just go galloping off how she pleases now that she’s a parent.
unfortunately, like rainbow, scootaloo is far too stubborn to listen - especially when she’s being shouted at. maybe rarity and rainbow need to combine their efforts to be effective…

4) mentioned before, that lychee joins the washouts as a means of getting his mothers attention - however, it was another source of parental love and affection he’d felt he’d missed out on. lightning retired from flying to become a coach to the washout team. lychee was a quick learner, and lightning grew fond of the boy quite quickly.
lightning and rainbow are ironically, the two biggest mother figures in his life. however, rainbow doesnt take very well to the knoweledge that her nephew has been taken under the wing of her arch nemesis. lychee does feel some amount of guilt for upsetting the one pony that was really there for him as he was growing up, but he sits on the guilt hoping it will all wash over and rainbow will forget, just like everypony usually does.
