“I’m only trying to do what is best for us
Well, I never asked for this, I never wanted this”

Cw: emotional distress, shouting, mentions/allusions to ‘captivity’, verbal fighting
“I was only trying to do what was best for you!”
“What was best for us? What was best for us?! Are you kidding me?!” Grace huffed and stomped her front right hoof. She whipped around to face her mother, a snarl on her face and posture rigid.
“For Tartarus’ sake, Celestia! You held us captive in another world for centuries and for what? To keep us from leaving? We were barely three months old,” barked the young pegasus as she continued to seethe.
Celestia’s distressed dimenor was starting to physically affect her previously regal posture. She began to wilt with each second that passed. She bowed her head in shame, her body sagging to the floor and her wings fell to the pristine marble flooring in one fluid motion. Even when in anguish, the goddess was elegant.
The alicorn took in a shaky breath before replying, “Don’t you see that I’m trying? Why can’t you see that I’m trying?”
Celestia’s eyes were wide and glassy, her tears were bound to fall at the slightest movement. Her pupils were fixed onto the ground, voraciously searching the tiles like they held the solution to this situation.
Grace glared down at her mother, her stare cold and jaw set with unbridled tension. Her wings were still ruffled with anger and made her look almost twice her size, which was only aided by her mother’s submissive display on the floor in front of her.
The pegasus opened her mouth to deliver a retort, but the soft sniffle off to her left broke her train of thought. Her golden eyes darted over to her twin, Dawn, as he was still crouched over the little vase of carnations that was shattered on the ground below his figure. The scene in front of her reset her initiative in a split second.
With a new resolve, Grace returned her focus onto the empress before her. She held her tongue and took a few quiet steps towards her brother and gently nudged his shoulder.
“Come, Dawn, let’s go get you a new vase and bouquet. I can let some of the castle staff know to come clean this up,” Grace murmured to the unicorn.
Dawn let out a shaky breath once more before giving a miniscule nod. He carefully got his footing and leaned on his sister who steered them in the opposing direction from their mother. The older mare was still quietly weeping as the twins took their leave.
