The movie really gave Jenner an asshole makeover. He really wasn’t a bad guy in the books. Yes, he vehemently disagreed with Nicodemus and the two didn’t exactly part on good terms but it never got to the point that Jenner wanted to murder him. And in the second book where you meet his son Racso, you learn that he was a good father who genuinely wanted the best for him.
