You suggest that Elves, much like the strange traveller she met, could be creatures from another realm of the Nine Worlds. After all, the Yggdrasil tree did return to Middle Earth just a little over a moon ago.
Honourshine: “The Yggdrasil tree? I was just reading about that. Wasn’t it destroyed during the War of Fates?”
Moonflower: “Yuh uh! But it grew back. Ratatosk said that it’s jus’ a saplin’ now, but it’s super big!”
Honourshine: “Ratatosk…? You sound like you know more about this than these books do.”
You nod, and reveal that you’ve been there yourselves. After taking a seat around the table, you recount how it all began when you and Moonflower were summoned by the then Oracle of the Starfalls Clan…
Moonflower: “… and then I finished my trial and became the new Oracle! And that’s why my eyes are glowy.”
Honourshine: “Wow… you’ve been busy. I don’t know how I feel about the implications of this oracle magic, but I’m glad you all made it back in one piece. And I’m guessing it was by virtue of being the Oracle’s champion that Blaze was granted the body of an alicorn prince?”
You tell Honourshine that actually, that was the mixed result of a ring Moonflower bought as a toy, and a wish you made at a festival’s wishing booth.
Honourshine: “… Hm.”
Moonflower: “Heehee! It’s true!”
Honourshine: “Well… magic is as magic does, I suppose. Still, you’re right: this does open the possibility that what I’m looking for is from another realm. The only problem is that we know next to nothing about those realms. Honestly, we barely know anything about our own — I’ve never even heard of bat ponies before today.”
You tell her that this is why you’ve decided to sign up with the Equestrian Voyagers Agency — to explore the world and beyond! With enough luck, you’ll be able to find some clues about Elves in the pre-Equestrian ruins of Old Ponyland, or among the traditional tales of the Kirin.
Honourshine: “Let’s hope so. If the traveller I met is a walking example of what’s out there, then I’ll leave this to you and stick to my research.”
Speaking of which, you ask Honourshine if she’s tried getting the bell identified by an enchanter or a musician.
Honourshine: “I have. Musicians seem to believe that the bell’s enchantment makes it sound the way it does. Meanwhile, enchanters tell me that there are no enchantments on it — or at least, none that they can sense.
My first thought was that maybe it’s enchanted with some kind of magic other than arcane — like air, which is related to sound. But according to the basics of enchanting, arcane is always needed for enchantments, so there goes that theory.”
Curious, you take your trusty lens of honesty, and look at the bell through it. Aside from the purple tint, you don’t notice any differences. You try striking the bell once again to see if anything happens, but nothing new appears in the lens.
Moonflower: “Eee‼ It’s super weird!”
While you are unable to see anything out of the ordinary, your bat pony companion certainly seems to hear something. You ask Moonflower if she can describe it to you.
Moonflower: “Yuh uh! S’like there’s a smaller library, and it’s inside a bigger library, and there’s an even bigger one around that one, but then there’s an even smaller one inside — and they all exist at the same time! Or like the room’s growin’ and shrinkin’ super fast, kinda like it’s shakin’. S’hard to explain.”
Honourshine: “That sounds… unpleasant. Maybe we shouldn’t ring this bell while bat ponies are around.”
You nod in agreement, and apologize to Moonflower for the discomfort.
Moonflower: “It’s okay! I’m super curious about it, too.”
