Cupcakes? Yes please! Also, ask if a Party pony working for an Adventuring guild is a deliberate pun, or just serendipity.
At the mention of cupcakes, you decide to sign up, and ask Moonflower if she will do the same. As Oracle, she does have her own responsibilities, after all.
Moonflower: “I’ve been thinkin’ about it! Ya know, bat ponies’ been livin’ under a rock for a super long time. Most of ‘em still are! But if I’m gonna change that, then I better see what else is under the sky for myself, first. So I think I should join, too!”
Pinkie Pie: “Then it’s decided! All you gotta do is sign here.”
Pinkie Pie unfurls two ridiculously long scrolls, and hooves you a quill pen each. The scrolls read:
“I, ________________, have read the following conditions, and desire to enter into an agreement for participating in the Equestrian Voyagers Agency (“the Agency”) as a guild member (“an Agent”). I understand that failing to meet these conditions may result in a stern talking to, a corresponding fee and/or being dismissed from the Agency.
The Agency is under the jurisdiction of the Royal Princesses of Equestria, and is designed to broaden the understanding of…
… special benefits, such as fee waivers for travel and supplies related to guild activities, access to an exclusive network of animal messengers…
… forbidden to use the resources of the Agency for personal monetary gain in any direct or indirect way…
… will not abuse diplomatic privileges to obtain favours unrelated to guild activities, including but not limited to…
… must give a status report in person to the Sponsor upon completion or cancellation of a Voyage…
… refrain from engaging in any misconduct susceptible to provoking a war if at all avoidable…”
After skimming through several dozens of rules — none of which stray far from common sense —, you each sign your names at the top, and give the scrolls back to the receptionist.
Moonflower: “Oh! And we got these, too.”
You give Royal Commendation to Pinkie Pie.
Pinkie Pie: “Great! Then let me be the first to welcome you to the guild! These commendations mean we can skip the initiation and hop straight to the cupcakes! Come on, agents, let me introduce you to some of my fellow officers. This way!”
As Pinkie Pie hops over to the next room, you glance at the three balloons on her flank, and playfully ask if her cutie mark is related to the adventuring parties she’s helping put together.
Pinkie Pie: “Heeheehaha! (snort) You deserve a gold star for that one!”
You share a giggle, and enter the guild hall’s main room: a large open area split by a closed mezzanine by the far wall, and stairs on either side leading up to it. Large, slightly rose-tinted windows give a warm glow to the sunlight coming in, and a faint smell of freshly cut wood lingers in the air.
A few accessorized ponies stand around chatting on the ground floor — likely adventurers, but none you recognize. Sitting on a stool nearby, however, is the minty unicorn Lyra with whom you share a greeting smile. A subtle yet soothing melody fills the room as she strums the strings of her golden lyre, giving it a homely atmosphere.
On the left side of the room, next to a long table with the promised cupcakes and some piles of barrels and crates besides, is a familiar-looking mare in a farmpony hat.
Pinkie Pie: “This is Applejack, our supplier! She’s in charge of keeping your bellies full on the road. Applejack, this is Moonflower and Trailblazer.”
Applejack: “Howdy! Say, haven’t I seen you somewhere ’round before?”
You greet Applejack, and recall that you may have crossed paths before you had your horn and wings, among other things.
Applejack: “Well, I’ll be! You’re that pony what came lookin’ for Golden Harvest a while back! Nice to have you and your partner aboard.”
Pinkie Pie invites you to grab some freshly baked cupcakes, then you move on to the other side of the room. Mannequins line up against the wall, each displaying fashionable paraphernalia arranged by a sophisticated-looking unicorn.
Pinkie Pie: “This is Rarity, our outfitter! She makes travelling gear that’s practical and stylish! Rarity, meet Trailblazer and Moonflower.”
Rarity: “A pleasure— oh, my! You really are an alicorn prince! I’ve heard all about you — only good things, of course. And you’re a… a…?”
Moonflower: “Bat pony!”
Rarity: “A bat pony! Why, I don’t think I’ve ever met a bat pony before. And your eyes, they’re positively striking! Well, if you two ever need anything to wear, you simply must allow me to design some apparel for you.”
Finally, below the mezzanine and beyond oaken doors is the guildmaster’s office. You follow Pinkie Pie to the open doors and meet the leader of the Equestrian Voyage Agency within.
Twilight Sparkle: “Trailblazer, Moonflower! I’m glad you could join us.”
Moonflower: “Whoa, it’s Princess Twilight! She’s the leader? That’s so cool!”
Pinkie Pie: “I know, right?!”
Twilight Sparkle: “I may be the leader by title, but as guildmaster, my role is mostly about meeting sponsors and their demands, and organizing voyages.
I’m also here to provide all the information you need about the guild and its missions. I know you just arrived, but do you have any questions so far?”
