Grandma Gwyneth is an old female Griffon from Griffinstone and one of the Senior Gals. She’s the best female friend and apparent situationship partner of Gruncle Gonsod, whom she has an unrequited crush on since childhood, much like Grandma Grizel does with Grandpa Gruff. In her youth, she was the first female Griffon to join Griffinstone’s royal guard and later the first drill sergeant, as well as a world-class Summer Equestria Games Swimmer.
Personality
Grandma Gwyneth is a tough, confident, street-smart, and tomboyish woman. She is straight-talking, no-nonsense, and is extremely independent in a similar way to Grandpa Gruff. She and Gruff seem to have the similar trait of not falling in love easily, as she was stated to have denied her attraction to Gonsod (and later her late husband) for a long while. She is highly athletic, loves water sports, and is an incredibly skilled swimmer. She has a very outgoing and excitable side in her personality, as she was determined to meet Gonsod and later date him, even if her feelings weren’t really reciprocated, and befriend Grandma Grizel. Despite her strong personality, she’s very kind, intelligent, and compassionate, and seems to care about the well-being of endangered sea species. In early years, although being confident, she had trouble talking back to others and standing up for herself, but after bonding more with her friend, Grandma Grizel, Gwyneth is able to stand up to rude customers and draw the line when needed. However, this has caused her to become somewhat aggressive at times, especially when she is annoyed with someone, even customers, whom she will talk back to or argue with.
Much like her vulture-like friend, Grandma Gwyneth is often self-conscious in regards to how she appears in front of others. She often dismisses things, activities, and certain mannerisms considered to be feminine, though this is at times merely a front. This is mostly shown when she’s a youngster where she feels skeptical about expressing her enjoyment for the few things she likes that are considered “feminine” and only showed affection toward her friends when no one was looking. However, hanging out with Gruncle Gonsod and Grandma Grizel has given her encouragement to fearlessly express herself, later heartening Gruff into not being afraid to do the same. She has no reservations about getting dirty or messy or proper eating etiquette, although she tries to be careful with the latter. She’s a strong believer in appreciating natural beauty and becomes offended when insulted for not wearing make-up and other cosmetics, similar to Gruff when others call him “ugly”, especially when disguising himself. Despite her disdain for “fancy” things, however, she crafts gifts for Gruncle Gonsod and her other loved ones on special occasions, some of them being heart-shaped, enjoys wearing a dress (as long as it’s aerodynamically sound) and jewelry, and might wear a few small articles of make-up if needed.
Although usually very friendly, she can lose her temper from time to time, such as when her loved ones are being mistreated or when Gruncle Gonsod doesn’t seem to get her attempts to get his attention. As displayed in concept artwork pieces, it is implied that she won’t hesitate to use brute force when standing up to someone, even for the most trivial of reasons. Although, at times she can be kind of overdramatic, often without realising it. She and Gruff also seem to share the trait of caring for children, as the two are often seen mentoring them, as well as loving to make puns, and the qualities of having extreme physical strength that even borders on unnatural and extraordinary athletic abilities. She shows a very creative side when it comes to making jewelry, especially from the shells she collects. She also shows a very cheerful and playful side (especially when she was young) when she’s around Gonsod and tends to obsess over him, often referring to as “Carrot Cake” and “Boobie”, similar to how Grandma Grizel calls Grandpa Gruff “Gum-Gum” and how Gruff often nicknames Gonsod. She has a habit of blowing her headfeathers out of her eyes.
Appearance
Grandma Gwyneth has a pale dark brownish pelt, darker colored wings, markings around her eyes, tail and underbelly, and pale brownish golden beak and talons. She has an athletic body type, coming from her past as an swimmer and is generally very strong physically. She wears an ankle charm bracelet with shell-shaped beads on her right hind foot and a golden earring on her right ear. She has three-tufted ears and long bangs that gradually change to dark brown along the ends, as well as greyish-sea-blue eyes. She also has a scar on her lower right foreleg from unknown circumstances.
In formal occasions, she usually wears a a long red sleeveless over-skirt dress stylized with matching coral gauze ruffle/flounces around the elastic neckline and on the side and bottom with an attached ivory-colored underskirt. Around her waist is a golden belt held in place with a golden buckle. Her outfit is complete with some golden jewelry, both of which Gruncle Gonsod gave to her as gifts.
Relationships
Gruncle Gonsod
While remaining her laid-back and confident self, Grandma Gwyneth is very affectionate towards Gruncle Gonsod, much to his bashfulness and awkwardness, as well as occasional brief annoyance. The relationship between the two is where one merely tolerates the other, though not as strongly as Grandpa Gruff and Grandma Grizel’s is, as Gonsod gets more shy when Gwyneth is sweet to him rather than miffed and appears a bit more flexible with her. Most of the time, he finds himself confused about his view on the Griffoness as their friendship is occasionally strained by her strong personality and bossiness toward him. However, Gonsod still values his friendship with Gwyneth, cares for her, and does not mind having her around, admitting that she is his best female friend, having shown compassion and support for her occasionally, and gladly sticking up for her when someone mistreats her. He does like Gwyneth, but only as a friend for all he’s concerned but still considers her pretty special. Sometimes, when acknowledging her qualities and skills, he expresses admiration and praise. Of course, not every time Gwyneth talks to Gonsod is an attempt to win his affection and she, additionally, proves to be a good friend to Gonsod at times, showing him full support and encouragement, and helping him with his family’s carrot business, and expresses gratitude for him for encouraging her to be true to herself and not be afraid to show her more feminine side. Although, there’s one little thing about Gonsod that frustrates Gwyneth at times and that’s his obliviousness, mostly demonstrated when she plays lovers’ games with Gonsod and gets frustrated or even angry when he does not take the bait.
Both Gruncle Gonsod and Grandpa Gruff have shown on occasions that they are slightly, but genuinely, attracted to their respective admirers as they do say that they’d choose them if they had to choose a female to be with and occasionally appear quite bashful when around them. In addition, their dry-toned and vaguely protective actions towards them and any other guy who’s trying to get their attention could easily be read as a slight form of jealousy. If they get defensive enough, they might even refer to their respective admirer as their “kind-of-girlfriend”. But both Grandma Grizel and Grandma Gwyneth’s two biggest turn-offs are their way-too-energetic behaviour and their habit of coming on too strong.
Grandpa Gruff
While she admits of being a little jealous of him seemingly gaining Gonsod’s admiration when they were cubs, Gwyneth never saw Gruff as a rival. In fact, the two are very good friends, with Gwyneth going as far as viewing him as a brother figure, referring to him as “Gruffy-Bro.” They hang out every now and then and mostly do so when Grizel isn’t around or when Gonsod is working. Most of the time, they bond over their interest in gymnastics, teaching cubs about aquatic life amongst other things, and generally their similar interests. She likes to tell others stories of her and Gruff as cubs, like how they used to race to the buffet station every Blue Moon. They often tease one another, with Gwyneth purposefully annoying and egging on Gruff, demonstrated by how she mentions how she “saves the caramel apple crisp bites from the likes of him” before starting to run and saying that she’ll get them before him with a panicked Gruff chasing after her. She’s very fond of his company and likes to call him nicknames like “Fringehead” and “Seahorse.”
Grandma Grizel
The two differ quite a lot from each other as Grizel is delicate natured and quite formal in personality, while Gwyneth is tough, confident, street-smart, and tomboyish. Grandma Gwyneth likes Grandma Grizel and considers the pair of them as “best gal-pals”. Grizel sometimes gets annoyed by Gwyneth, but they are still great friends, despite that she usually doesn’t want to admit it. Despite Gwyneth consistently annoying her and “making a mess with her water sports,” Grizel still makes an effort to include her in day-to-day activities and explain things to her, maybe even give her a lesson in being a proper Griffoness or two, as well as tending to keep Gwyneth close to her on occasions. So far, they have socialised positively and hang out with each other when they’re not with Grandpa Gruff and Gruncle Gonsod or their other friends. Their friendship may be the result of how several of each other’s tendencies pop up in one another, such as Grizel’s classy and stubborn demeanor to defend herself matching Gwyneth’s tomboyish confidence and Gwyneth slowly embracing her femininity more and more as she hangs out with Grizel, who, herself, is very feminine, enjoying shopping and fashion and typical girly hobbies.
Grandma Galina
They enjoy each other’s company despite their differences. Especially as cubs, Gwyneth always tries to include Galina in her sports, to which Galina’s response is usually accompanied by a tired yawn.
Grandma Ginger
They like each other’s company, although Gwyneth doesn’t like it when Ginger loses her temper.
Grandma Gavya
Gavya was warmly welcomed to the family. Gwyneth was beyond excited to have a new “crafty buddy”.
Grandma Genevieve
They get along very well and like hanging out with each other. Given her academic knowledge similar to her husband’s, Genevieve sometimes schools Gwyneth in the arts of water sports.
Grandma Gianna
The two get along very well and have the same high energy.
Grandma Gaelan
Like her other friends, she’s fancinated by Gaelan’s astronomy and astrophysics knowledge.
Grandma Genesis
They like hanging out but, like the rest of her friends, Gwyneth disapproves of Genesis’ poor treatment of her husband, Grandpa Gillan.
Senior Gals
Amongst her friend group, she’s seen as the high-octane one. Her high energy can irritate her friends sometimes, but they all care about her. In return, she’s very loyal to them and won’t hesitate to throw herself in danger to help them.
Senior Group and Grandpa Garvey’s Gang
She’s relatively shown to get along pretty well with her friends’ significant others. Unlike Gruncle Gonsod, she gets along well with his frenemies like they both do with their wives, whom she and the Senior Gals consider as part of their team. However, he and the guys respond with annoyance when the girls gossip about them.
Her husband
Not much is known about Grandma Gwyneth’s deceased husband but it can be safely assumed that she loved him very much. It’s also mentioned that he was a sailor, which could be one of the many things she liked about him. Although she misses her husband after his passing, Gwyneth has moved on and begun growing her feelings for Gonsod, her first crush, again.
Garrett, Gaia, Guno, and Gerti - Gruncle Gonsod’s grandnephews and nieces
She gets along well with Gruncle Gonsod’s grandnephews-nieces, who view Gwyneth as a part of the family, essentially as like a grandmaterteral figure.
Greg
Greg is Grandma Gwyneth’s assistant. Due to being a right-hand Griffon and having a good and caring relationship, Greg is extremely loyal and respectful to Gwyneth, which she returns.
Gerard
She has only interacted a few times with Grandma Grizel’s grandson, they seem to get along pretty well.
Gallus
They have a few interactions and get along well. Gwyneth seems to be just close enough to Gallus to the point where he sometimes indirectly refers to her as a “somewhat second grandmother figure”, the first essentially being Grizel.
King Guto
While Guto is close friends with all the Senior Gals, he seems to interact more with Gwyneth, since she was his drill sergeant. She respects Guto as a leader and Guto is usually concerned about Gwyneth’s recklessness, often comparing him to Gilbert and especially Gruff whenever she’s off patrolling the city on her own or when she’s with at least one of them. She misses him after his retirement.
Skills
Swimming skills
In her youth, Grandma Gwyneth was a world-class Summer Equestria Games Swimmer. Even in old age, is a very skilled swimmer and can swim long distances in the water in a short amount of time. She can also make her way easily through harsher currents.
Gifted Intellect
Despite being somewhat absent-minded at times, she is shown to be highly trained in marine biology, veterinary, and gymnastics.
Trained Marine Biologist
Grandma Gwyneth is a trained marine biologist in all the fields, including ichthyology, invertebrate zoology, and marine ecology.
Trained Aquatic Veterinarian
She can diagnose and treat the health conditions of marine creatures professionally and easily.
Close combat
Gwyneth is a highly skilled combatant due to her years as one of King Guto’s soldiers (later drill sergeant) and uses her skills in gymnastics to help her in her fights.
Acrobatic skills
Grandma Gwyneth is a master acrobat whose skills in gymnastics only rival those of Grandpa Gruff, though she can still get slight pains from time to time.
Athletism
Even during her old age, she’s a very talented athlete. She enjoys playing every existing water sport, including surfing, kayaking, water polo, diving, kiteboarding, and many more.
Sailing skills
She seems to have great knowledge in sailing, which is a skill she shares with Gruncle Gonsod.
Jewelry making
She shows a very creative and talented side when it comes to making jewelry, especially from the shells she collects. It is possible she even made the foot bracelet she’s wearing.
Handicrafting
She likes doing craftwork and often uses the seashells she collects to decorate her work.
Drill sergeant and Coaching skills
Coming from her past as King Guto’s soldier-later-drill-sergeant, she expresses incredible skills of a supreme leader, strict parent, confessor and confidant, motivational expert, judge, and jury. She often uses those techniques to help Grandpa Gruff with other Griffons’ career training. She also uses her abilities as the assistant coach of Griffinstone’s Equestria Games team, helping Grandpa Gideon train the athletes and encourage everyone to give their best.

Trivia
The word “Garrulus” (Gwyneth’s maiden name) has its roots in Latin, meaning “talkative”, “chattering”, “babbling”, and “noisy”, which could represent her energetic behaviour when she’s around Gruncle Gonsod, especially during their youth.
Her current surname is “Guillemot”, which is also a type of seabird. This could represent her love and connections for/ with water and marine life.
Despite sharing a last name (at least, partly) with Greg, her loyal assistant and one of Gabby’s uncles, there is no familial connection between the two Griffons.
Grandma Gwyneth’s personality and interactions with Gruncle Gonsod were inspired by various characters, such as Tina Russo from “The Looney Tunes Show”, Peppermint Patty from the Peanuts comic strip, “The Looney Tunes”’ 1996 edition of Lola Bunny, Roxy Roker from Hannah Montana, Nana from “Nina Needs to Go”, and Grandpa Gruff and Smolder from “My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic”.
Gwyneth was designed to act very similar to Grandpa Gruff; this has been used for further speculation that Gruncle Gonsod had, at least at some point, feelings for his companion. A noticeable similarity between the two characters is that they both have a lot of grandchildren, though unlike Gruff, Gwyneth’s grandkids are related to her. Additionally, one of her middle names is actually “Cathartes aura,” a type of vulture, the bird Gruff bears a striking resemblance to, written as one word. She also says her “Sharp Sharkfins” phrase in a similar way Gruff says his “Tough Tailfeathers.” The two Griffons also share slight design similarities, such as a scar, spiky tails, pale-coloured beaks and talons and Gwyneth’s eyes having a similar shade of blue with Gruff’s blind eye, though hers in the two latter cases are a little darker. Both also wear few accessories, Gruff’s being his fez and (occasionally) saddlebag and Gwyneth’s being her foot bracelet and earring. Those similarities, except for the scars, however, were originally unintentional.
Gwyneth is the only one in the Senior Gals to have a scar.
She can easily slice pineapples with her bare hands.
Before her design was finalised, her underbelly, wings, tail-tuft, and markings around her eyes were darker-coloured and she wore little to no accessories.
At one point in the story development, she was written as Gruncle Gonsod’s crazy/ slightly “nuts” ex-wife, much like the creator [Bees Meliss] first did with Gruff and Grizel but in the end, it was decided not to have it that way, for Bees wanted the two elders to be independent.
